I would say several of these guys are just hitting the portal to snag more money from Bama boosters. Time for pay raises.

This poor guy - he's the scapegoat. His life must be hell right now, so it wasn't a snap decision. We don't need a center, at least one that half his snaps are low.

Hard to make that work for you when there's probably significantly talented guys behind you.

This is more like Saban posting "we're hiring" to college football.

Not hard at all. Tyler Barron did it last year.
Not at TN, he didn't. He hit the portal and got Ole Miss boosters to pay him more, not TN.

That's called marketing your skills. TN didn't want to pay him what he felt he was worth, so he found someone who would.

Sounds like how America should work, eh?

Not really how it is suppose to work. First, this is college and the players are on scholarship and the purpose is to get an education. If you happen to be good enough you can go to the NFL.
This is not true economics. If Steve Balmer decided he wanted to buy a national championship every year in college football there’s very few people who could try and do anything about it. In the NFL there is a salary cap. No such thing here so if he wanted to spend $1B each year fielding a team there is nothing to stop him. Doesn’t mean that’s what they are worth. He would be losing money doing this but if he wanted to win he could do it.

Not how folks want it to work but, right or wrong, it is exactly how it is working. Baron sold his services to the highest bidder just like 80 to 90% of these transfers are doing. Education is most certainly not a priority for many of the players these days and cash money is. The scholarship just puts them in position to capitalize on their talent.

Another great example is Quinshon Judkins who most likely is moving on from Ole Miss. Now why would the star running back leave a potential top 10 team and SEC contender? For no other reason than cash money. He may be holding it over Ole Miss’s head but by all accounts he is leaving if he doesn’t get paid more. It is out of control and I don’t think they can get it back with any method that will pass legal muster. That horse done left the corral.

Not everything, especially in entertainment, is based on debit/credit economics.

College boosters have NEVER made money paying players. It's not new and Balmer could've done it in 2004 just as easily as 2024, if he'd wished. 🤷‍♂️

Just because you can see it now doesn't mean things have been working "the way they should" for decades and decades.

But the main thing is: nobody EVER funded college players to make money. The schools brought the big money in and the fat cats wanted the "cred" among their fat cat buddies for "helping the school look good on the national stage."

Blaming the kids for seeking money NOW when it's above board is pretty late to the party.

I think Baron was briefly in the portal in 2022 until he negotiated a better deal an returned.

Per the latest Sports Jay podcast, Alabama had 9 players enter the portal in 15 minutes.

Now that is super fast.

Paul Bryant is probably turning over in his grave.

Are any of these players big time pieces? Or just depth and role players?

the starting center is transferring out, but he would pretty bad all year long. would 100% expect them to go hunting for the best center money can buy.

Maybe he thought Ole Miss would give him a better path to getting drafted. How do you know it was about NIL money? You can’t get to the QB if he can dump it off to a wide open receiver 5 yards downfield.

Really? Like the Michigan game? Nah , meet chicken made that Oline look like a highschool team.

That wasn't even their worst performance this year. Somehow, in spite of all logic, the South Florida game was worse.
