Alabama Shakes

Their album is available for download on iTunes today. I downloaded it this morning and listened to it on the way to work. If I had to describe the album in one word, it would be "vintage". It's got an old jukebox/blues diner vibe to it. Feels like an album released forty years ago, but still fresh.

Brittany Howard really stands out.

Would you say worth it?

I'm a big fan of the Shakes. It is to me. Very bluesy. Otis Redding meets Macy Gray.

Preview it on iTunes before you buy. But it was definitely a good buy for me.

Vintage is the right word for it, I think.

Alright cool. I will when I get a chance. From the way you are explaining it it sounds right up my alley.

Shakes are bad ass, sounds like rock and soul hopped in a time machine and made sweet love and released the subsequent children in the present age. North Alabama has produced amazing music over the last several decades. If you don't believe me google MUSCLE SHOALS. Shakes are no exception. Great band. Refreshing band. Justin Townes Earle and Alabama Shakes are restoring my dwindling hope in not only music but also humanity. Nice to know some people did not forget their roots.

Highly recommend the band touring with them right now too, Lee Baines III & the Glory Fires. I hear this show is amazing, wish it was coming within about 3 states of me to actually get a chance to see it.

I noticed a lot of folks listening to them on spotify last week, so I gave them a try. The top five songs were all I listened to, but I liked what I heard.

I've been hearing them on the radio, and I like them. Would've probably never given them a chance if I wasn't forced to listen to them.

The gf is not too excited about earle

:furious3:

Too bad for her

What did she think? Took mine to see him last year and she wasn't thrilled with the proposition going in. He ended up playing on stage alone because his two band members couldn't get it in due to weather. He went on to do about 2+ hours straight and kill it, she absolutely loves him now.

Haha. I laugh because I bought my girlfriend tickets for JTE for Valentine's Day.. she really doesn't like him all that much. I sold it to her as a nice evening out on the town. She didn't fall for it. Hey, she said herself that she loved concerts at the Ryman.. So I mean, what are ya gonna do? She love the Ryman I love Justin Townes Earle. Boom.

Saw the Shakes on Friday. They were good, but the performance doesn't really stand out to me. I really like them, but I feel like they'd be better in a small venue than a giant outdoor stage.

Crowd was gi-friggin-gantic for them. Couldn't move.

I really enjoy this band...entire 'Boys & Girls' album is solid.

FYI...they will be at Live On The Green in Nashville on Sept 27th
