The Alabama fans get in free. Heard that on TV during the ESPN coverage. Dont know about Tennessee. Was watching and boy Alabama has 2 or 3 deep at positions. I hope Dooley can get us there.

Because they're Alabama. Obnoxious and cocky, but absolutely the most passionate fanbase in college football.

Only Kentucky basketball fans are worse. They are like that when they are not good. Like the Billy G two yrs. lol

Why can't we pull in as many as Alabama...they had 91,000+

Gee...I don't know...

Maybe because it was FREE and they are coming off a National Championship year??

Our O&W game attendance record was set for the '99 O&W game. (It was free too, and obviously we had won the NC 4 months earlier.) See a pattern?

They have filled up every spring game since Saban arrived. And, I may be off my rocker here, but I don't think $5 would have made a difference.

They've had back to back undefeated seasons with Nick Saban as their head coach...and things look very promising for them this year. Obviously they are very excited and there is a lot to look forward to. Compared with where we are it is easy to see why they are packing their stadium full. That guy said "why can't we get that many?" or something like that...Maybe that was a sarcastic post because if it was sincere how do you not recognize the difference between our program and Alabama's right now?

You're not listening. In 2007, long before they were riding any championship momentum, they were coming off a losing season, riding a 5 game losing streak to AU and 10 of last 12 to UT, and had fired Shula...they set the record and had to close the gates at 92k + for the spring game that year. They were excited and re-committed to taking the program back to the top. Which, they now have done.

I think the OP's point is comparing UT fans support yesterday to that of Bama fans' from a relative time like that in 2007.

My point is a bit more extreme: UT fans cannot match the passion and support of Bama fans. It's just not on the same level. Great support?...absolutely. But, Bama is ridiculously off the charts, and they have proven it in bad times as much as good. It's why they willed themselves back to the top.

When you hire arguably the best coach in college football, that already has won a national championship in the SEC, you tend to stir up a little more excitement than hiring a guy from La Tech. Don't get me wrong, I support Dooley and I think he could do big things here, but he's not the high profile home run hire that Saban was.

And they didn't "will" themselves to the top through fan support. Saban is a good coach and a great recruiter, the fan support had minimal impact on the wins and losses.

Because Saban knows how to use every angle to his advantage. Before he got there they didn't get crowds like that. The entire AD gets behind it and pushes it.
I can't stand Alabama, they are my least favorite team in the WORLD. But they do a great job in marketing.

Exactly right. How many fans show up for USC spring games under PC?
Great coaches find a way to win NO MATTER WHERE THEY COACH.

You're right about that, after the NC Saban made the statement that after that first spring game when he and the team walked out and saw 92,000+, he knew with that kind of support anything was possible. He really promoted the Spring game this year and got the fans there again. As far as being free, it wouldn't have mattered, fans would be there. Auburn charges $5 and had 65,000 yesterday, their largest crowd ever. Thats about 155,000 fans at the 2 games on the same day. Pretty amazing, but both games are promoted and the $5 charge is a nonfactor.

They had hired Nick Saban. Who had won a NC in the SEC in the last 5 years.

From a football standpoint I believe their secondary will be weaker this year not only in pass coverage, but their corners can not tackle. Also looks like Mcelroy took his teeeerrrrribbbbllleee performance against Texas and has carried it over which is good.

Fans can't "will" themselves to the top, but they can definitely have an impact. When you see a large stadium with empty seats it has to have an impact on the players. I give credit to Auburn this year with 65,000 fans on the same day that Bama had 91,000+.

The population of the surrounding area is much larger as well. Greater Bham alone is about 1 million - I'd bet 2 million live within an hour of Tuscaloosa.

They were pulling more even when Saban was coach....and as far as who cares???? Fans should...its our team....

We had more than anyone expected this year. It simply isn't realistic to expect 90,000 for our spring game after how the last 5 years of Tennessee football have gone.

I went to the spring game last year and this year, but to some people it is just no big deal. The last two years were my first spring games and i am a die hard vol.

I watched the replay earlier while the game was in the second quarter. There were soooo many empty seats. No way they hit 92k. Just like Bama to claim a certain amount of people there for a spring game.

OK, count them yourself............and the official count was 91,312, respectfully.
