2 - star recruit Dyshon Sims has offers from Bammer and UGA and recently UT.

Why does everyone praise Bammer/UGA when offering a 2 star but bash UT when they offer 2 stars?

After more people are seeing him he is blowing up rivals will probably upgrade him to a 3 or 4 star as will 247.

Your "everyone" is a very bold statement.

I, for one, never bash Butch "Gets It" Jones for offering anybody. That man can recruit

I look at two things.

1. Star rating

2. Who else is offering?

If the star rating is low, but the offer list is legit and strong, I don't worry about it.

The last thing is the coach himself. If the coach has a history of strong recruiting, I don't worry about any of that stuff because I have faith the coach knows what he is doing.

So, to answer your question, Tennessee has had some low rated players with poor offer lists signed by unproven coaches

If you lost the tie breaker that determines who represents your conference in the bowl slot awarded to your conference champ, did you really "win" your conference?
Lots of co champions in all of the major conferences before CCGs were implemented, and every team that's won them claim them.

Yeah but also pretty much every school seemingly claims most anything it can to make itself or its programs look more successful/prestigious nowadays...I'm not sure if it really so much verifies or accentuates actual performance

(also, while I could be wrong, it seems quite a fair amount of the co-stuff has been fairly recent - like last 10 years - or done in retrospect/rectroactively)

Bama / USC 1974

Bama / Notre Dame 1970
Bama / Arkansas 1960
Bama / Minnesota 1933
Bama / ND 1928
Bama / Stanford 1925
Bama / Dartmouth 1923

If you tied for the national championship, did you really win it?

Do you still claim it?

Where did you get those dates? Bama doesn't claim a national title in any of those years except for '25, but you even have that wrong since '26 is the year we tied Stanford.

But even if you corrected your dates you still wouldn't have a point.

I'll take your word for it on the dates. I googled split national championships and those are the Bama results that came up. I don't pretend to know Bama's history year by year.

My point is as valid as the one you made about Coach Jones' record.

Couldn't agree more. Dooley took some really low rated recruits that had few other legitimate offers. The offer list was more disturbing than the ratings. Tennessee will return to a top ten team when we consistently land recruits that have offers from the other big-time football schools in the SEC. Florida, Georgia, Bama, Auburn and LSU. OL and DL being the most important. Beating out Vandy or Kentucky or Big East or ACC schools for recruits consistently will produce the same results as the last 7 years. Butch appears to be headed in this direction.

From a fan of the team that invented over-counting of championships. Oh, the irony.

Not really. There are no tiebreakers for national championships.

UT claimed the Litkenhous title before Bama started claiming our pre-consensus titles.

But Michigan, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Pitt and several others started that trend long before both of us.

If you finished 3rd in the SEC and was ranked 20th in the polls, did you really "win" a national championship?

'89, 3 way tie for 1st with Bummer going to the Sugar Bowl due to being highest ranked but Tennessee and Auburn were both champion too. Tennessee actually finished the season as the highest ranked SEC team after the bowl games.
