I heard stories about the crimson tide. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that come from certain fish and/or shrimp that wash up on shore every so often that cause a red tint to the water? I've also heard of a battle that took place and the blood of the dead caused the red tint?!? I'm guessing that neither one of these are correct. Anyway can someone tell me the history behind the name?

Also where did the d@mn :elephant: come into play? I'm totally lost on that one.

I always thought that it was one of those things that came from a newspaper columnist. They wore reddish colored jerseys and the columnist said something about them "Coming down the field like a Crimson Tide".

This is a perfect opportunity for Yay Vols to jump in and add something positive . . .

Good question! Why are they crimson? Why the dang elephant and what does either have to do with another? Maybe local lakes have wakes that run red? African elephants run lose in bama? Beats me  .......I still cant figure out if Aub is a tiger or a war eagle? wuts with that? G'eezzz

That's from the "Bloody Pond" in the Battle of Shiloh (TN). Ask LIO since it's in her backyard.

there is a phenomena known as an algae bloom that turns water red. however I see no significance towards the Bammers unless its possibly referring to the wet spots above full septic lines and/or fill lines, where alabama flags reflec causing a reddish tint in the surface.....what was the question?? B)

An AU grad was injured during the civil war,he awoke to find an injured eagle on the battle field the only 2 survivors. He nursed it to health. It broke free during the Jawga game and circled the stadium and Au fans began the "WAR EAGLE"cry AU went on to win the game and the eagle died on the field..But no one know for certain..

The elephant is the mascot because Bama fans "never forget" things like perceived slights and former greatness.

I thought the elephant was to symbolize how much their football program had become a circus.
