I wasn't impressed at all. Very questionable take imo. Gets blocked too easily. Not a hard hitter. Not the best form tackler either. He has good speed and takes good angles but will definitely need to get stronger. Redshirt guarantee.

he will either have to drop back in the secondary or get built up in the weight room. He looked like just an above average HS linebacker to me that would play maybe 1-AA or somethin. He has great speed and angles but cant get off blocks and an aweful tackler. He couldnt even take out a lanky white kid in one of the videos. If this is a highlight reel then i dont know, i guess they see something in him that we dont.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't have me chasing a ball carrier out of bounds in my highlight video. Also, note that alot of his tackles are 6-7 yards past the line of scrimmage.

Is it more or was there no footage of him dropping back in coverage? I would've liked to see that esp. since we are recruiting him for safety, but yea I have to agree w/ you guys very unimpressed. He seemed like a questionable take at the time and also none of the NC schools offered him a schollie. He will def take a redshirt and seems like a marginal prospect at best. I gotta say I'm disappointed w/ the class so far hopefully we can start pullng some big names in soon

I was wondering when Id see this thread. Im not sure if ive ever been more unimpressed with a recruit as far as the "Highlight Tape". I remember seeing Dorian Davis's last season and wondered why he was rated so low. I believe thay had DD rated as a 2*, If this new kid is a 3* then Dorian is at least a 5* blue chipper according to these reels .

surely no one's saying anything negative about a commit to the Vols, it amazes me that we can question Coleman and this board goes crazy, yet nothing when you guys are ripping Winfield, what's the difference?

(1)I think coleman was recruited to take Jim-Bobs spot holding the clipboard, If he doesnt pan out at QB, I dont see where he would fit in at any other spot, I could be wrong....It wouldnt be the first time, wont be the last.

(2) There is absolutely nothing that jumps out at me watching film on Alonzo that makes be a believer that he can even comes close to getting it done at a D-1 school, It makes me wonder why they would waste a scholly on a scrub. Hopefully they plan on either making this guy a safety, or beefing him up for depth on the D-Line



All in all Im confused, I believe Phil is digging himself a whole with some of these guys....Ill have to wait and see

In Whitfield's defense (although I agree the video is unimpressive), he does have another D1 offer from South Carolina. The Gamecocks have actually produced a half dozen NFL defensive backs over the past few years, so I'd say they know how to evaluate DB talent. Not that I'm pimping Alonzo as a future pro, but I'm sure there's more to this kid than what we're seeing in his tape. At least I hope there is.

There has to be more to this guy than these tapes, I would agree that S.C. would know how to develope CB's, I believe they have another All-American this season....Maybe this guy has potential at safety, We will see.

I'm sure there is something more to this guy than his videos. He hasn't even signed a LOI yet so let's not get our panties in a wad over this.

So what, if he does not look great on a couple of video clips. Remember how great OJ Owens looked on video. He was a total bust. Remember Inky Johnson did not look that impressive on film but has develope into a really good DB. Do not write the kid off yet. :biggrin2: :biggrin2:

no, I mean its not just unimpressive its just plain bad. I mean all the people who have seen the film just thinks its aweful. Only post in this thread if you've seen the video because thats what its about. We arent writing him off, we just wondering what the staff is planning on doing with this guy.
