Second Volunteer lost his job during first cuts. Let's hope the others can keep their foot in the door. We need more elite NFL players from the University of Tennessee.

the stats on defense would beg to differ. with a terrible offense the defense still managed to finish in the top 10.

Top ten in run defense. I think they were ranked 32 overall. They did not create enough turnovers, and the backers were a step slow. I consider last year's defense to be a good defense, but they lacked the quickness and speed when compared to better defenses UT has fielded over the past 15 years.

They also gave up big plays to SC, Alabama, and Vandy late due to their inability to get to the QB quickly.

It was a decent defense. However, the perception that all SEC Offenses were less than stellar last year, makes one question exactly how good our defense was...

who was the first to be cut? I know Stallworth got traded...but didn't know about another Vol getting cut:eek:hmy:

The first was Kevin Simon cut by the Redskins.

On another note, in the Stallworth deal, the Eagles gave up LB Mark Simoneau, which I'm told moves Omar Gaither to backup MLB.

Btw...first post

They played one quality offense, Notre Dame. How did that turn out?

I'd say LSU and Georgia were quality offenses. LSU managed to ring up some points against Miami. Also, on the turnover issue, I heard Chavis complained that opposing offenses played very conservatively, because they knew they didn't have to do much to outscore our pathetic O. Thus, turnover weren't easy to come by. I was happy with the defense, they played well enough to give us a shot to win most of our games.

Also, I think a lot of Notre Dame's points came from Ainge's turnovers and our punt team rolling out the red carpet for that safety/boxer.

I'm with you on all of the above. Our D was pretty stellar last year... and it's looking like they have a chance to be better this year!
