He was on Maher's "Real Time" and rather than joining the usual Maher chorus of "Bush did it, Bush did it" Baldwin had the audacity to point out where the current crisis originated.

Baldwin Blames Financial Crisis on Clinton, Dems and Barney Frank | NewsBusters.org

The, the thing we have to remember, a friend of mine who is very close to the financial community in New York pointed out that Democrats have a lot of the responsibility for this as well. I mean, it was Clinton who killed the Glass-Steagall, and it happened under a Democratic president. Barney Frank and his committee, they, they kept propping up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac saying everything's fine, everything's fine, everything's good. And it was his job to know everything wasn't fine. And Barney Frank let you down and let us down as well. And so, but I want to say there's blame to go both ways. But I will say, I want to, I maybe keep beating this to death, but I still think anyone in this Congress who voted to add $140 billion to that bill, they should be ashamed of themselves. That is a disgrace. It's a disgrace. This Congress is a disgrace, Democrat and Republican.

way to go Alec, I'm sure you're still a pinhead, but I can at least watch "The Hunt for Red October" without my usual, jaundiced eye toward you.

I have to agree with Alec on another issue. My Name Is Earl sucks.

Making home loans to high risk people is what caused this, and that is something the democrats favor more then the republicans, there is no denying this.

honestly, when there's a big problem, both sides of congress are at fault, and unfortunately one of the problems with the two-party system is that they spend more time trying to make the other side look bad than they do trying to make things better...

Yes...Clinton probably messed up and Frank has his blame....but if huge mistakes were to blame...why didn't Bush correct them when he had a R congress for 6 years and Frank was a minority voice? I'm not saying that Democrats don't bear responsibility, and I'm glad that A. Baldwin is recognizing this....but my question is why didn't the Rs right their wrong?

I know the movement to blame the dems is to alleviate the blame on the current administration...but I think both arguments are a joke.....the blame goes a lot further than that.

the current administration tried, but there were GOP Congressmen with their hands in the Fannie/Freddie till as well and even with GOP majorities in both houses, the measures failed.

face it, no one in Washington wanted to be the ones ACORN blamed for restricting access to home ownership to minorities, which is exactly what would have happened.

Good point. Plenty of blame to go around both sides.

Exactly, nobody wanted to come out and admit, "Not everybody can afford a house". :eek:hmy:

not just a house! some of these houses people bought with these loans were ridiculous. before this all came to light I sat back in my neighborhood and wondered, how in the hell did that person afford to move into here? and now they're gone and now I know. broke bastards don't get 300k houses they rent duplexes and live in apartments. thats just the way it is.

It's all about gotcha politics. Bush and many others from both parties warned this could or would happen. If the democrats supported it, it would look like they are turning their backs on a large portion of their voting block and the repubs would use it against them.

If the Repubs made a move on it they would be accused of trying to keep minorities down and being racist. It was a no win situation and things like this will continue to happen as long as we have men and women in office who care more about power than the American public.

Try Chuck Baldwin The real answer.

I understand voting on principle. However, because I don't want to see a Socialist in the White House, aided and abetted by Dem majorities in Congress, I will vote for McCain/Palin.

This is not the election to toy around with a weak 3rd party candidate.

This is the perfect time to vote for change!

We will not tolerate this garbage ever again.

Even if it means Obama getting into the White House.
