I have 'wondered' about this movie for a year now.
I find myself perplexed. Very rarely, if ever have I never not made up my mind about a movie. I still find at this late date that i just do not know how I feel about this movie........

The original creeped me out as a kid. I guess that is what happens when you can read before you get into the first grade.

The positives. The Cast and Director, the story, today's CGI.

The negatives. The story, childhood memories and
trepidation.

Anyone going to check this out and\or take your kids and freak out the next generation?:eek:hmy:

Depp has become "type cast" and imo, should play a great Mad Hatter.

he will be awesome, I'm sure.

we're planning on taking my fiancee's 10 year old to it. In the past, I would have been leery of taking her to something like this because she tends to scare easily and dwell on things long afterwards. but, now that she is entrenched in the H.P. series, she seems to have gotten over that. We shall see.

Just got back from watching this. You know what I still do not know what to think about this movie. But I think when all is said and done that is a good thing........

Great special effects. Depp was truly the Mad hatter.

Haven't seen it or read reviews, but my guess is they all go something along the lines of "Around the same quality as Tim Burton adaptations such as Batman, Planet of the Apes, etc. but kind of worth watching for Depp."

How is Depp typecast? They're always out-there characters, but ones that take different kinds of range to play. Say what you want about him as a person, but he's got acting chops.

Word I've been reading is the story is just not that great. Many say the first 20 minutes and last 20 minutes are boring and unnecessary. I get the impression it's a small story that's stretched around special effects, cool art, and Depp and still doesn't break 2 hours. Doesn't make me thrilled to go pay to see it, so I'm still undecided. Wife will probably request it. 3-D also appears to be tacked on to help the underwhelming project.

I think the type casting is more about his appearance and role. More and more becoming the creepy loner dude that's messed up in the head. Mumbling, almost drunk and just meandering around as whatever character. I've always liked the guy and enjoy his work.

Typecast also implies that's the only kind of role you can get. Depp is still of the stature that he can still cherry-pick his scripts.

Anyways. Let the talk of the movie continue.

No totally different! You will not, can not guess, reflect upon what this movie is. Nothing compares. The thing is, is it good or bad? Personal taste will decide your like or dislike of this film and to a greater degree than usual!

So it's love it or hate it?

Also heard totally not worth the price of a ticket for 3d -- see it regular?

I like to take my own glasses, pay for the regular one, and just happen to walk in the wrong door. Wow, good thing I have glasses....

Another money saving tip...use kiosks and buy Senior tickets. No one ever checks.

We saw AIW in IMAX 3D today. The visuals and sound were great. Depp does a great job (as usual). The story was forgettable, but that's not the reason to see it.

It's no Avatar, but the experience is worth it.

One side note: $100 is an expensive day at the movies, no matter which way you slice it.

Very indifferent on the movie. Really enjoyed it until that stupid dance scene at the end. Didn't make sense and it honestly cheapened the movie quiet a bit. Not really sure what Burton was thinking.

we go to the early bird, take our own water bottles and fill them up from the drinking fountain, buy the large tub of popcorn (which comes with one free refill), divvy up that first tub by using some paper lunch bags we bring from home, then go get the refill before the movie starts. for four of us on Sunday, we spent $32.50 (fiancee had to have a large iced tea. and unsweetened, I might add. yuck!!).

Yes, the dance was stupid and awkward.
