We are suffering from a combination of spotty recruiting and weak coaching that dates back for more than 10 years, long before Warlick took over. Recruiting and coaching fell off pretty dramatically in the last several years of PS's career. Warlick actually has improved recruiting a bit--well, until this year--but it's not where it needs to be, and meanwhile the terrible offensive coaching is unchanged.

Thank you. Finally someone says it.

Untrue....the only whiff Holly has had is the 2016 class.

Didn't we whiff on 11 post? Sometimes it not about what you got but what you let get away. Whiffing on 2016 could very well bite us in the butt next year especially if we have the amount of injuries that we now have.

Recruiting is not the problem with this team, (although it may be in the future). This team has as much talent as any team in the country, including UConn. The problem is offensive coaching.

I wouldn't say that we have as much talent as UCONN because they have Stewart and nobody else has anything like her. More than just offensive coaching I think the whole area of player development is a problem. I may be the only person to think this way but it seems to me that players are as good the first of their freshman year as they are as seniors and in some cases worse.

Stewart may be the best player, but overall I think we're right there. Agree with you about development, but I think the offensive scheme is more the problem.

Yep. The downward trend for the LV program began under Pat. I think UT enjoyed a talent advantage for a good long while. We were able to pick and choose the very best talent year in and year out. Rare that an opponent had anything close to our size, talent and depth. Now there's more talent to go around, and there are more coaches who really know the game and how to teach it. With our talent advantage gone, coaching is of paramount importance. It soon becomes apparent who has what it takes. Fans see it, other teams see it and recruits begin to see it. Unless one is content to bury heads in the sand, it's hard to miss when the emporor has no clothes. Just a matter of how far the folks making decisions will allow the program to slide. If and when a change is made, I hope UT will hire the best coach possible and not limit our search to Pat's assistants or former players.

Seems like everyone is dodging the elephant in the room and that is one question that everyone's not asking while we sit on our hands & rear-end and that question is how long do you think that the AD will let this go on before he / she makes a change? I agree with most of the natives and wait and see but can the AD do the same or will they pull the plug and start over? UT Lady Vols means a lot to the VFL faithful and the newbies. And I don't think watching SC and KY in the SEC unseat us as the Top-Dog will be an easy pill to swallow. Just Sayin..

Get ready for it...And I don't think watching SC and KY in the SEC unseat us as the Top-Dog will be an easy pill to swallow. I think it has happened!

Part of the problem is that there are two very different standards of success in this equation. The long-time Vols faithful consider success to be a return to the golden era when Tennessee was in the final four every year and was a legitimate national championship contender. Anything less is a bust. The AD considers a 25-win season (with no SEC titles and an early exit in the NCAA tournament) a success. For a lot of teams, 25 wins is a great year! For Tennessee fans, it represents a lowering of the bar.

Graves, Russell and DeShields are legit.

UConn's guards run circles around Tennessee's. Carter/Reynolds vs. Jefferson/Nurse? It's like comparing high school players to pros.

They need to fix the offense, but they also need players who can improvise when needed. So far, Cooper has been willing, but her execution has left much to be desired.

Right now, the guard play and one dimensional offense are killing them. Maybe the guards suck because of the offense, or maybe the offense is stalled because the guards suck. Either way, both need to be fixed. Watching UConn or ND passing and movement to get every player involved in the offense shows just how far Tennessee is from where they need to be right now.

I disagree about the recruiting. We've had great players every year. Diamond is a bonafide superstar. I'm not worried about missing 2016 - 2016 doesn't even look like a particularly good class although time will tell.

However great players only get you so far. Coaching and developing those players has been severely lacking along with a coherent let alone effective offense.

I disagree with you on Grave she only can get her way vs lower rank teams with no post players. We have seen when she go up against the top teams she is a non factor. At 6-2 and no jumping ability she is toast.

Graves has held her own against SC, ND, Stanford with Chiney, LSU with Plaisance, and UK. She's a non factor when the guards don't produce and opposing teams can smother her. She's a gamer.
