The Diamondbacks just used Micah Owings, a starting pitcher, as a pinch hitter just a few moments ago, and he knocked it out of the park. That raised his batting average to .421. I'd say he's a pretty good all around baseball player.

Well, if you have him as a pitcher, he isn't doing so bad there, either.

Although I don't expect Arizona to win at the rate they have won so far, it is hard not to be very optimistic about them. They have a rotation with Webb and Haren as their one and two guys. Owings hasn't been great all the time but he is still unbeaten. Edgar Gonzalez and Johnson haven't been great, but Scherzer retired 13 of 13 yesterday in his major league debut (as a reliever), and struck out 7 of those guys. Davis coming back should help in the long run, too. Their starting rotation is arguably one of the best in baseball, and it could get stronger. The offense is young and dangerous.

I'd call Arizona a prohibitave favorite to win the NL, as a matter of fact, i'm going to call around and see if theres good odds on it.

Best i could get was 3:1 for the NL Pennant, not enough for the risk. Mets are 5:1, Phillies are showing 5:1

Zambrano has been used as a pinch hitter.

Ankiel was used as a pinch hitter before becoming an outfielder.

Some guys are just badass at baseball

yeah, i picked him because i had DL spot to fill but haven't seen much production for him because he has a bum ankle.

Z is an effing beast at the dish. Kerry Wood used to be able to swing the bat too, but won't see many appearances any more.

There used to be some guy who pitched for New York and Colorado who could swing a pretty good bat, too, but I seem to have forgotten his name. He's probably been retired for years by now.

Anyone remember Josh Bell at Auburn?

On the weekend SEC 3 game series he would usually be the starting pitcher on Friday, catch on Saturday, and DH on Sunday.

He also hit when he pitched. He was also from Tennessee. He was an all around bad arse.
