'All of a sudden the bill comes out ... 30% to 40% higher': Here's why restaurants are suddenly serving up airline-style fees

Yeah, if they didn't tell me that before I ordered, I wouldn't pay it.

The price on the menu, plus sales tax, is what I expect to pay. Of course I am going to tip on top of that, but no way am I going to pay some kind of surcharge (they probably do something sneaky like place it in small print at the bottom of the menu).

Going out to eat for me has become what it used to be, a special occasion or a date occurrence. No longer do I go out to eat 3 or 4 times a week. I've started bringing my lunch to work even, because $20 for lunch is nuts.

Lately for this family of four to eat lunch out in Middle Tennessee.. 100 dollars has become the norm now 😂 we have stopped doing it entirely

It’s gotten waaay out of control. We went to firehouse today for lunch. Just the 2 of us & it was $29

Yall McDonald's still has 2 for 3.19 McDoubles. Get a small fry and water and that's a decent lunch for $5

I did see a fee on one. Mad Greek in JC. So there is such a thing. It was 50 cents, and I overheard the waitress saying for cash it wasn't owed, I think.

I like what I can do on my grill and smoker better than restaurants anyway. Still go out after church. But every night we are eating at home. Or a school concession stand depending on what sports we are into at the time.
I agree, I would almost always prefer to cook, or grill/smoke. We eat out more than I like because of stuff going on, and especially during the kids swim season. Only time I prefer eating out is on trips or vacation.

And that waiter/waitress is getting rich on $3.09/hour.
More and more people are leaving no tip these days.
