Today is the liturgical celebration of All Saints Day (as the actual day is tomorrow). This is the heaviest heart I've had on this day.

Today in worship, we lifted up my mother's name in memory. Opal celebrates today in the presence of her Creator with her family and the cloud of saints who have gone on before. Her passing in April feels both like yesterday and so long ago.

I also want to lift up the names of others who have moved on from this mortal coil this year. My high school friend, April Lewis. My former student, Madalyn McEldowney. My friend, Steve Austin. While we hurt from your absence here below, we rejoice that you never again have to endure pain, loss, and sorrow.

We remember those who have died of COVID-19 and other medical issues. We remember those who gave their lives in service to our country and our communities. We remember those who have lost their lives to accidents and to violence.

Please share in the comments those who you would like to have remembered.

Lord, we pray that you will grant us a fraction of the peace here that you have granted to those now resting in your presence. Amen.
