Using a group effort on special teams falls in line for a coaching staff that emphasizes teaching.

"It's the best way for our guys to improve technique on a consistent basis," Elder said, "because they're going to get corrected every single snap just like offense or defense. You see the coaches hollering at guys, 'Hey, here's what you need to improve,' coaching them up, getting their technique better. We're going to do the exact same things on special teams."

I believe Fulmer used the same approach.

I wasn't much of a believer in that approach then, but we seemed to be a much better kicking team under that approach than we've been when utilizing a special teams coach, or our former HC as the special teams coach.

Urban serves as his own special teams coach (at least he did at his previous three stops) because that's a role he held at ND and he saw the importance of that aspect of the game. It obviously translated very well for him, but not so much for our HC who also previously served as a special teams coach while an assistant.

Butch is going to turn this ship around. He's went after every weakness on this team with a whole group approach. Everyone is accountable for UT and I love that.

Who's Urban? Irrelevant name to me.

Maybe to you but not the rest of the college football world.

Back to the topic. Special Teams can do wonders for a team. UF averaged about 41-42 yards per NET punt last year. That's crazy good in college.

The better teams typically have good Special Teams. That's a way UT can instantly get better...make a few more FG's, net punting, net Kick offs.

Great points, great post. Bet Butch and the boys agree 100%

I too like what he is doing. I'm not expecting much this year but by God I am ready for some football!
