A friend of mine told me that there is no Mello Yello in Middle Tennessee. And for the past several weeks, I've noticed Cherry Coke 12 packs were harder to find. This may explain it...

Aluminum can shortage: Beer, soda companies can't keep up with demand

Much like manufacturers weren't prepared for a sudden rush of Americans buying retail-quality toilet paper in the early days of the pandemic, can makers and beverage companies weren't ready for drink consumption to go from the tap to the home.

"The can industry is working 24/7 on meeting the unprecedented demand," said Robert Budway, president of the Can Manufacturers Institute, the industry's trade association.

I hardly ever drink sodas, but give me a soda in bottle with cane sugar. They had a burger joint in Houston that had these and I would always get a Fanta orange..or two.

You’ve never experienced anything until you had an old school Dr Pepper in a glass bottle roll out of the machine , you crack the top on it and put your mouth over it because you didn’t want to waste half the bottle from it foaming up and it shoots out your nose . 😂

Ice cold...good stuff. Funny when they came out with aluminum cans, it was like Hey I taste metal!

We walked miles and miles as kids looking in ditches for bottles and that 10 cent deposit on each one so we could get enough money for candy , another drink and peanuts . Ahhh the simpler times .

I had a Handy Andy down the road with a short cut thru the woods to the back of the store. They had the 6 million dollar man pinball and candy and gum. I would ride down there at night on my mini bike, holding my legs up through the woods so a snake did not get me..lol. There were rattlers.
Would not trade those times for anything.

You think future kids will ever get to experience the simple pleasures like we did? A few weeks ago we discussed playing in the creek. We used to walk to the store for icees (maybe slushies) sold in mini baseball helmets.

Are those times gone forever?

Gone the way of the Dodo bird . We stayed in the woods , creeks , fields and pastures all the time as kids . I can remember coming home scuffed up and bleeding from my stomach and chest because I slid to far coming back down a tree .

I know we are off in the weeds from aluminum cans ( lol ) but this was my first mini- bike I rode the wheels off this thing and the only brake was a flat steel plate that you pressed against the back tire to slow it down ...

We had a neighborhood contest when I was about 10 to win a hand carved wooden sword with some valor inscription. It consisted of several events over a couple hours and in the end it was timed to climb a tree and back down. I won! Wish I still had it.
