I've mentioned before and many of you know that my mom is suffering from Alzheimer's. It's a terrible disease that afflicts many of our moms, dads, aunts, and uncles. Voltil's dad suffers from it as well. Obviously, this dreadful disease took our beloved Pat Summit. It's a disease that robs the person of their mind slowly and methodically.

My Volnation family has been so generous with their thoughts, prayers and kind words to me. I can't tell you how much it means to know that my mom, myself, and my family are in your thoughts.

Tomorrow me, my family and many of my mom's friends are participating the 2016 Walk To End Alzheimer's. This walk is occurring nation wide and we are participating in the Knoxville walk in honor of my mother.

I am asking if you can make a donation, even if it's just a little. Every little bit counts and is appreciated. Just to be clear, my mom or our family receive none of the donation. It goes straight to the Alzheimer's Association to advance research into a cure. You can donate by clicking on the link below and if you do social media, please share it on Facebook, Twitter, etc!

If you can't make a donation, I understand and kindly ask that you keep my mom and family in your prayers, particularly my dad as this is really wearing on him.

Thanks and Go Vols!

Both my grandparents on my mother's side died from Alzheimer's.

What's with the personalized donation page as opposed to the main ALZ donation page?

That's just the way they set it up. When you register to help them raise funds and do the walk they create a page for you to share for others to donate. If you don't feel comfortable donating through the linked page, I am sure you can go through the main Alzheimer's page. Also, since we formed a team in honor of my mom, I think they track the donations for that team. On Saturday, our team was announced as the team that raised the most money. Carolyn's Big Orange Crush was our team. We have raised over $6K to date and they are still accepting donations under our team name through December, I believe. Thanks for asking.

With your grandparents, you know first hand how horrible this disease is. My mother started showing symptoms about five years ago at a relatively young age of 72. She has slowly declined over the last few years. Physically she is still doing well. She has trouble comprehending what you are saying. You think she can't hear you but in reality she doesn't understand what you are saying. English is slowly becoming a foreign language to her. She still knows her closest friends and relatives but the people that she doesn't see on a regular basis are becoming distant memories now. It's really sad. I wish they could come up with a cure. Some of the meds are slowing it's progression but currently the outcome is inevitable. Did you know that some researchers believe that ALzheimer's is a type of diabetes of just the brain?
