(As is the rule here) or are the coaches "guardedly" Excited about Dobbs??

Seems like they see Dobbs as having a better skill set that will allow them to "open the playbook" that they haven't been able to do previously??

Ie a bigger threat to run in the read option, and seemingly a better arm??

What do you guys think? If so I sincerely hope they are right!

Dobbs can run but he isn't gonna be like Vick. he is a pro style quarterback but can pick up 5 or 10 here an there. If I remember the fastest 40 time I saw for him was a 4.7

He is smarter than Worley and has a better ability to keep the ball in read option as well as make anticipatory passes than Worley. I'm excited

Other than North, Pig, and sometimes Croom, I hope said passes will be caught by our receivers. Our possession and sub receivers are woefully inconsistent. The other guys just had route/communication issues earlier in the year but could catch.

Solid routes and making routine catches and a few hard ones could really put Dobbs over the hump today

^This, really would like to see Croom have a breakout game! He is a huge target and he, along with North and Pig, could make our passing game a little scary for opposing defenses!!

quick slants across middle with Croom and passes to backs out of backfield to open up the inside run game. Then hit them big with North and Pig downfield...touchdown!
GO VOLS!

Better hope Josh Smith doesn't see the field then. He's obviously not ready to play SEC football as a freshman.

Butch's offensive philosophy is not the deep ball..short passes. TIFWIW..

I agree. Butch has seemed kinda giddy when talking about Josh. Big smile on his face, glowing remarks. Lets see if Josh can validate Butch's enthusiasm. I sure hope so.

He has struggled last game or two for sure. Hasn't had a ton of opportunities but missed when he did. Here's to him having a solid game as well!

I'm more worried about keeping Dobbs upright. MO has a really good D-Line. Forcing a guy in his very first start to hurry his throws is typically a really bad scenario for the QB.

As soon as Dobbs found out he was starting, he went into the O-line meeting to talk to them. He has their respect. They'll do their job to protect him and help him succeed today.

2 weeks ago he was the 4th string QB. Today he's the starter. Why wasn't Butch playing him all season if they are so high on him?

We drove 10 hrs from Knoxville to MO yesterday so I'm hoping to see him light it up.

He's a Freshman, didn't want to play him unless he absolutely positively had too. They're giddy because he is the QB. He is very very intelligent as well, almost a photographic memory.

Worley did an admirable job to get us this far. Deal with it.

Didn't know I was having a hard time dealing with it, but thanks.

I can understand the need for speed, but; I need some one to explain what the big difference is for the quarterback. I may be thinking of this wrong and I understand running down slower guys, but if Dobbs has 4.7/40 speed and is on the 40 and has an open/clear lane and decides to take off, then a defender at the 40 with a faster 4.2/40 takes one thous.... and chases off after him, will hit the end-zone at the same time? Being faster would be great, but; it isn't an end all statistic IMO. With that said, GBO!:clapping:

Aaron Murray's fastest 40 time has been 4.72, and his average 40 time is 4.84, and he has reeled off some 70+ TD runs in his career. Connor Shaw's average 40 time is about 4.64, with a low of 4.53. Dobbs doesn't need 4.4 speed to be an effective QB running the zone read. The key will be reading the defense and knowing when to keep it. He's a cerebral young man, so if he has been spending a lot of time in the film room studying defenses, he can be an effective runner.

Think Butch would have started Peterman over Dobbs if not inured?

Starting a true freshman makes me expect a more run oriented attack instead of putting all the pressure on the new QB to throw it all game, IMO.

Mizzou has almost the worst pass defense in the country as far as yards allowed. They'll let him throw. Can't be any worse than worley

I would expect Mizzou is going to play the run and challenge Dobbs to throw. It's stating the obvious, but his receivers are going to have to help him out.
