(As is the rule here) or are the coaches "guardedly" Excited about Dobbs??

Seems like they see Dobbs as having a better skill set that will allow them to "open the playbook" that they haven't been able to do previously??

Ie a bigger threat to run in the read option, and seemingly a better arm??

What do you guys think? If so I sincerely hope they are right!

.

Having been around many college coaches in the last 30-35 years, they are NEVER excited about having to play freshmen. They understand they can never predict what a freshman might do from play to play.

They might play them, but would prefer to have junior and seniors always in their 2 deep. Not realistic, but how they think IMO

Starting a true freshman makes me expect a more run oriented attack instead of putting all the pressure on the new QB to throw it all game, IMO.

I would expect Mizzou is going to play the run and challenge Dobbs to throw. It's stating the obvious, but his receivers are going to have to help him out.

that was approach in Manning's first start and it worked. A 10-9 win over a # 17 Washington State and he only attempted 14 passes.

Mizzou has almost the worst pass defense in the country as far as yards allowed. They'll let him throw. Can't be any worse than worley

Peterman would have entered last week if not injured. as would Ferguson if not injured..

The Coaches at UT specifically recruited Dobbs to run their offense at UT, unlike any other QB on this roster!

^This, really would like to see Croom have a breakout game! He is a huge target and he, along with North and Pig, could make our passing game a little scary for opposing defenses!!

.

Id like to see Croom gain 10 lbs. and move to TE. He would be a NIGHTMARE match up for opponents.

He's a Freshman, didn't want to play him unless he absolutely positively had too. They're giddy because he is the QB. He is very very intelligent as well, almost a photographic memory.

Worley did an admirable job to get us this far. Deal with it.

nothing against you but I hate hearing things like this.

A photographic memory isn't real, just a term people use incorrectly to label an eidetic memory, which there are about.... 12 cases of in the entire world. And those that we "think" have this have such damaged social skills that it all but nullifies the intelligence boost.

A football player with even a semi eidetic memory? Not gonna happen probably.

I was just stating the things that I know about him some people think he will be like mike Vick and it just isn't gonna happen
:hi: Understood. It wasn't a callout or anything like that, your statement on Dobbs' speed (which I wasn't aware) made me wonder about and question the importance of QB 40 times. Vick was more of a RB at QB position to me and Dobbs is not that IMO, so we agree on that.
Aaron Murray's fastest 40 time has been 4.72, and his average 40 time is 4.84, and he has reeled off some 70+ TD runs in his career. Connor Shaw's average 40 time is about 4.64, with a low of 4.53. Dobbs doesn't need 4.4 speed to be an effective QB running the zone read. The key will be reading the defense and knowing when to keep it. He's a cerebral young man, so if he has been spending a lot of time in the film room studying defenses, he can be an effective runner.
Thanks! These are the kind of things I was thinking also. Blazing speed is a plus in a sprint to the goal, but; being evasive and getting the few yards needed for extending drives and keeping defenses guessing/honest is what a running QB is about.

Everyone said Peterman could not be worse than Worley!! I hope Dobbs does great, he had two good series against Bama. (I know there were some dropped passes.) Maybe he lights it up tonite, but I have a feeling this could turn into a grind it out game. Defense and running game will need to step it up and help him lead the Vols to victory.

i Think Dobbs will rush for 70 yards and throw for 300!!!! as vols destroy Mizzou 42-14

Dobbs can run but he isn't gonna be like Vick. he is a pro style quarterback but can pick up 5 or 10 here an there. If I remember the fastest 40 time I saw for him was a 4.7

Kind of unfair to compare him to Vick. No QB is tha fast.
