Reaction to the BCS standings have pretty much fallen into two categories:

1. Don't worry, we're obviously going to win out and go to a BCS game anyway.

2. They're raping General Neyland's corpse! I'm going to kill myself! How could God let this happen!?

Honestly, last season made me appreciate winning games for the sake of winning games. I want UT to beat Alabama for the respect, pride, and bragging rights, not because it will better position them in the BCS.

How did we revert so quickly into fans that only care about playing for national titles? It's just the first week of the BCS for God's sake.

I just want UT to win games and see what happens.

Like I said in a previous thread, I'm not upset about Cal being ranked ahead of UT right now. But...

This is the system that is supposed to figure out who the 2 best teams are in the nation at the end of the year. If the BCS doesn't know that UT is better than Cal right now, then who's to say that it will know who the 2 best teams are at the end of the season?

It's not about UT right now, for me. It's about this system deciding who plays for it all.

good call, as the late great Erk Russell said once in the 1989 National Championship with the Georgia Southern Eagles, "We play week to week, we play to win to get to just play ONE MORE TIME..."

In the BcS format, only one game means anything.
Im with you 381, sending bammers back to tuskaloser sporting another Big Orange butt-kickin is sweeter than anything the BcS can do for me.

jUsT win, Baby jUsT win!

See no reason to worry. Several of this weeks BCS 10 must still play each other....i.e. OSU vs Michigan; USC vs Cal USC vs ND; Louisville vs WVU. So if the Vols win out they WILL BE in. But first things first.

BEAT BAMA!

I think you should have said "how did we revert BACK into fans that only care about playing for national titles?"

And it really doesnt bother me. Always shoot for the top. Thats what UT does.

I think that the majority of us are just happy to see that Tennessee is back on the right track for now. I'm all for just winning the games and appreciating the wins, but the fact is that every team aspires to win a championship whether it be a conference championship or a national championship. That's what they're playing for. That's what the teams set their sights on. It's just part of college football.

Right now, everyone is excited that Tennessee has had the turnaround they've had. We're in or right around the top 10. I think last season is making us all a little greedy for better rankings than we have (myself included)..

I don't think that we only care about playing for national titles, but if we're not talking about competing for one, that means we're not winning in the first place. It goes hand in hand. I also want UT to beat Bama for the bragging rights and pride and I feel the same way about a BCS bowl, that also includes the bragging rights and pride when it comes to the program.

But you're right, it's just the first week and things will work themselves out. There is a lot of assumption right now that Tennessee is going to win out and that's going to be tough.

Things will work out. We just have to win and not worry about the ratings. The problem I have with being dropped so low is that, at this point, we may not jump over the loser of OSU/UM, WVU/UL, or USC/ND because we are so far behind them. Now, with wins over Bama, SC, LSU, and Arky we should move up, as long as our past opponents turn it around and quit playing like doo-doo.

I agree. I would love to see UT win an SEC title again, or a BCS bowl game. I was trying to respond to an attitude among some UT fans. I had a friend tell me before the Kentucky game last season that he wasn't going to watch because, "what does it matter?, we're not going to a bowl."

My response was, "hell yes it matters, every game matters, do you want to listen to Kentucky fans talk about how they beat in 2005?"

I also had friends who argued that the comeback against LSU was basically a waste because the rest of the season went so badly. No, it wasn't. The LSU game was a great win no matter what happened the rest of the season.

So the BCS didn't give us any respect, let's hope our team can go earn it on the field:rock:

We just need to concentrate on our schedule. With a little luck, we would end up in the SECCG and get to knock that overrated Auburn team off.

We need to just win our remaining games. Then we can make the case for a top ranking.

:good!:
