Amazing Saban can pass Bryant for wins in like 5-6years

Saban is at 261, Bryant is at 323, all the league title wins & extra playoff wins are helping him move up fast. If he averages 13 wins a year he can pass him in 5-6 years roughly. Guessing that's his goal & plan. We should be revelant by then hopefully!!!!

Total # of wins I don't think is as relevant as winning %, and Saban has Bryant beaten by a noticeable margin there. Saban also has just as many titles as Bryant despite Saban coaching in a much more competitive era than Bryant did.

I agree with BOT that what Saban has done is more impressive, and honestly it isn't even all that close. I know many Bammers, even as good as Saban is, will never say that someone is better than the Bear. But what Saban has done is more impressive, IMO.

Also, in the modern era, I think you can argue that Urban Meyer is actually the second best coach, behind Saban. He doesn't have great longevity, but has an absolutely ridiculous .854 winning %, which is slightly higher than Tom Osborne. He also has just as many titles as Osborne (3), and he won them at 2 different schools. Meyer will always have a mixed legacy because of how he exited at Florida and Ohio St, but the man is an absolutely incredible football coach who I think you could argue is actually underrated.

Saban is the GOAT. Although wins specifically has to do with how many more games they play (14 vs 9 or 10), the other accomplishments are just unbelievable. The SEC West has been totally stacked during a lot of his tenure, and then you have the SECCG on top of that and a real natty game/playoff. Factor in that the money and talent at the top is bigger and better than ever plus scholarship limits, etc. His ability to almost completely dominate this era is truly amazing.

Yep. I always point the folks who say "Well, he won titles at 2 big time programs" to his time at Bowling Green and Utah.

At Utah and Bowling Green, he was running a circa 2021 offense in the early 2000s. Way before his time. When Florida hired him, the refrain from most of the media, even some UF-friendly media, was that he ran a gimmick mid-major offense that wouldn't work in the SEC. Now, you are a dinosaur if you don't run some version of the spread. I think what people failed to see at the time is that his version of the spread is actually a physical, balanced offense that is not overly reliant on misdirection or "tricking" a defense. That's why it is successful. I think at the time people looked at his formations, saw guys really spread out, lead blockers in non-traditional spots (like having no FB) and were like "That's a pansy offense."

I hope he decides to hang it up before then! I’m ready for Bama to have a downturn. I’ve always hoped we would beat him once before he retired, but I’ve come to the realization that probably ain’t gonna happen as long as he is in charge.

I don’t think saban has a specific goal In mind before retiring.. people thought it was passing bear. He’s done that... I think he is just going to coach until he wakes up one day and feels like he’s too tired or sore or something to keep pushing like he has. And when he can no longer push to be the best I think he will retire.. could be awhile at the rate he’s aging!

Just like Spurrier's system, he was always searching for the mismatches.

Me and @05_never_again were talking about this the other day and how football is now more about matchups and mismatches than ever before. The way Bama completely destroyed Ohio State was a clinic in finding mismatches in #’s and personnel .

I would love for UT to ruin this possibility.

I mean, really, really, really love it.
