Interesting read from the Wall St Journal. I don't know much about the AAU so I'll leave it to the more knowledgeable posters to evaluate the arguments in this article.

While AAU gives the kids exposure, its honestly nothing more than summer league. Fundamentals are not taught in most cases. They learn fundamentals with their highschool coach. Problem is most coaches in both highschool and AAU don't know how to teach the fundamentals anyways. I personally didn't put much stock in AAU while it was fun to play in the summer, if we were knocked out in the tourney oh well. Winning a state championship would mean much more to me.
