...just occurred to me. If CBJ had had UGA's players Saturday, and Richt had had UT's players, what would the outcome have been?

I read a post on Saturday that said, "Richt has done less with more for years". To me, that explains the whole scenario.

You can always ask that question, and it means nothing--if Joey Jones (South Alabama coach) had UT players and Butch had S.Ala players, who would have won that game?

Exactly! UGA usually has teams that are loaded with talent but they can't seem to get that to translate to on the field performance.

You never know , but unfortunately I believe Richt did just fine when he came into Neyland with a lesser team in 2001

Give Coach Jones Aaron Murray, I'd give him the edge and the win. Just look at the last two minutes, Richt turn the game over to Murray and just sat back and prayed.

I was JUST going to say this! Forget switching entire teams, just give me Murray and I would feel VERY good about our chances!

I'm not so sure on that one. I know the talent differential, as far as "stars" goes is different, however, there are other factors that go into it. Don't underestimate the value of having upperclassmen who have been in your system for 3-4 years vs. having to play a lot of freshmen (and even upperclassmen) who are having to learn a new system. S. Alabama will not want to play that game again this time next year.

People love to beat up Mark Richt here. Heck, I even remember getting into an argument with multiple posters on here who were ranking him below Dooley, in terms of SEC coaches, a couple years ago.

And yeah, it's true, the guy hasn't won the national championship as a HC and maybe never will. But I think he's a very good coach who almost always seems to get the most out of his quarterbacks. The charge of "doing less with more" is not without some merit, but I don't think he's solely a guy who just has to rely on superior talent to win games, like Fulmer, either. He does his fair share of coaching, I think, which is evidenced by the fact that, unlike Fulmer, he doesn't fall into those really long losing streaks against another coach or program. He isn't afraid to change things up and get aggressive when necessary.

I know Georgia fans like to rag on him, but I really think they will miss him once he's gone. I was at FSU when he left there and I know our program missed him alot (and the offense never really recovered).

Butch Jones needs to get some SEC wins under his belt before we even start thinking about comparing him to Mark Richt.

122 wins and 41 losses translates pretty good for me. I get it though, no NC. But UGA would be stupid to get rid of Richt, like many of their fans are clamoring for. This is the pinnacle of their success and they should savor it while they can, because Saban & Spurrier are going to retire and Butch is going to Rise to the Top.

This is going to help us out a lot, along with everyone else in the SEC. I for one think Saban will go pro one last time once he finalizes himself as the best Bama coach of all time. Either way, when these guys go away, especially Saban, it's anyone's ball game. Bama is nasty right now, and they have bench players that could start for most teams. Saban has built a dynasty over there, and when you step back and look at what he's done you can't help but just say d*** this guy is the best.

Richt is Fulmer minus 98.

He's an expert at getting close. He's an expert at getting great talent on his team only to squander it through mediocre coaching, poor discipline, and honestly poor player decisions.

I actually respect him as a man. He seems like a decent enough guy. He's not a great coach. His record is what you expect of a UGA coach who can recruit his home state effectively and then coach at a mediocre level. If they had a guy who knew how to coach game week and game day... they'd be in the same category as Bama.

UGA is a very, very easy place to coach as CFB jobs go... even the media in GA is in the tank for them.

I think regardless it would've been within reach for either team, most years TN/UGA is a good game, with the occasional blowouts every now and then

I think Butch took a less talented team, starting freshmen and walk-ons, and took Richt's UGA team into overtime. Thus, I think that if the talent was flipped, Richt would have been coached out of the stadium.

PS: As a person, I have a lot of respect for Richt. I just think that CBJ showed Saturday that he's a superior coach.

Why would we trade VFL's for a bunch o dawgs......? I'm sure Richt wishes this too but unfortunately for him he worked with what he had, and did okay with it.
