Ann Coulter: what passes for "hot" among conservatives.

while the left is saddled with Patricia Ireland and Molly Ivins.

actually, this is much ado about nothing, even less than the current BS Rush is going through.

Donny Deutsch? he isn't even a practicing Jew, he must have stayed at a Holiday Inn Select before that interview.

Whether or not he is practicing is beside the point. My roommate and I had a fairly lengthy discussion about Ann Coulter last night, we came to the conclusion that if she would practice her comedic timing she might not come off as completely hateful and ignorant, she would just be another satirist. I agree to a point that she says a lot of what she says just to "stir the pot" but I wonder how much of it she actually believes.

And Molly Ivins is not even in the same ballpark, that's not a good comparison. Bill Maher would have been closer.

As for Patricia Ireland, well, she at least approaches the idiocy of Coulter.

Why is Coulter any different from any partisan hack on either side?

She accomplished her goal through and through.

Because like it or not, there are those "hacks" on both sides that don't come off as hatemongers. I mean, I hate Bill O'Reilly as much as the next sane individual, but he has never said anything close to some of the crap that has spewed from the Wicked Witch of the Right.

What really bothers me is that the media, and that goes for right-leaning and left-leaning media, continue to give her a forum in which to spread her tripe

So she shouldn't have the ability to say what she thinks? (I doubt she believes much of it)

She can say what she wants, she can say it til her face turns blue. It should have read "you aren't defending what she says." I am all for freedom of speech, but I am tired of the media continuing to allow these people to speak on air.

That being said, you kind of reached if you were implying that I don't believe in the right to free speech.

Why, the media wants people like her?

She equals ratings which equals money for the media outlet.

It is all about capitalism.

She is being sarcastic and she is polarizing with the statement.

She is accomplishing every thing she set out to do by making the statement.

So racist, homophobic, anti-semitic and otherwise incendiary commentary should always be allowed an open and widely viewed forum for the sake of the free-market?

it's a slippery slope.

Do you believe in freedom?

If you do, then yes.

I am not arguing that, yes it is obvious sarcasm, but listen to the woman talk. Most everyone I talk to about her, on either side, does not get the feeling that she is saying most things for the sake of satire.

You need to start a thread condemning a whole lot more people if you're going down that road.

Why? Is Ann Coulter not as good a place to start as any?

Fine, Al Franken, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Chris Matthews, Tucker Carlson, and any multitude of others can all go to hell.

Her number one goal is to be the most polarizing person on tv or in print.
