Realized this afternoon that I went to my first UT Baseball game in 1992- 30 years ago.

Lower Hudson Field. Little Green grandstands. Coke trailer was the concession stand I believe.
My Junior year.
Delmonico's 3rd season I believe

I did the lookup and it was 4/14/1992 against Clemson. Vols won 4-3 on an insane play in the 9th inning by Alex Sanmiguel
Admission was free
Coolers were allowed.
Guy - who I thought was old, but likely my current age was smoking a pipe behind the backstop.

My first home game was in 1986, Lower Hudson Field . . . sat on the back porch of my Frat house and had pledges bringing us beer as needed, I don't even remember who was playing and this was for every home game . . . LOL . . . man, those were the days!!

…been a Volunteer fan for better than fity years. First baseball game was Friday, directly behind the dugout at Minute Maid Park. Was at the UT vs UT game in Knoxville, triple OT when Lofton and the Vols beat Barnes , Durant and Longhorns.

I’ll drink to those memories.

That’s all we’ll have one day.

Cheers.

When Delmonico was new, he came to our fraternity house and asked us to turn out to games and get rowdy. He may have also encouraged some pregaming. He also asked if anyone's dad happened to be an ESPN executive because he really wanted to get some baseball games televised. He was really trying to build the program and get people interested. The athletic department didn't really care about the playing surface at the time. Guys would climb the fence all the time to throw football, frisbee or practice their chipping.

CRD started reserving the two rows by the visitor's dugout for fraternity guys. He called it fraternity row. He'd regularly have pizzas delivered during games, which guys absolutely loved. Opposing players were rode pretty hard; I remember a pitcher flipping off the guys as he came off the mound.

I remember Delmonico coming by the houses to encourage going inside the park rather than just hanging on the patios. I also remember the tarps being a giant slip and slide when it rained.

Alex Sanmiguel. That’s a blast from the past. That would’ve been a good win. Clemson was good in those days.
