I just read through an article on MSNBC. It seems the Japanese Prime Minister has the attitude that everything that passed prior to the nuclear detonation was irrelevant and the U.S. are the ogres of WWII and the Japanese are the victims.

I suppose the more personal approach at bayonet point (ala Nanking and Manila) is much more acceptable behavior.

The Japanese will never admit they committed atrocities during WW2. It is a matter of face, they'd rather die than admit they did someone wrongly....hmmmm some posters here are kinda like that.

I do not know if any one has read the estimated causality report for the invasion of Japan, but the total amount was 8,000,000. 2,000,000 allied soldiers and 6,000,000 Japanese.

Goodness, they were teaching their women and children to fight with pitch forks.

I heard a quote from one of Truman's military staffers that went something like.....They (reporters) told us that the bomb was horrible and I replied that the whole damn war is horrible.

I would just like for Japan and Germany to admit the facts and teach the facts in their history classes.

God help us all if any other nation on earth had the bomb before the U.S.

A little known fact that they also had massive underground airfield bunkers waiting in defense of the motherland. These bunkers had Jet engine airplanes in them and it is estimated they would have decimated our Naval fleet, due to the fact our ships weapon systems would not be able to shoot them down. The Marines would have been sunk before ever reaching shore and at the time the race was on to capture Japan before the Russians joined in. We wanted that jet engine technology for ourselves.
