The two things driving that list are commitment to football and the presence or lack of a strong in-state recruiting base. I would have expected LSU's number to at least be closer to Florida's.

Can we add a column for "bang for your buck"? There's spending money, and then there's money well spent.

After stinking it up since the mid-90s, you successfully shattered the bank for a winning coach. Congrats on your sudden good fortune.

I would consider UT's Wins/Recruiting Budget to be more a result of the circumstances of the past four years than anything else.

Since Saban's arrival at Bama, I'm betting that UT's budget for paying head coaches hasn't been significantly lower than Alabama's, given that UT has been paying people to not coach football.

The same could've been said for Bill Curry, Mike Dubose, Mike Price, Dennis Franchione and Mike Shula.

We can only hope it won't take that many coaches to finally get it right.

No kidding. At that rate, we should be back in the hunt in about 10 years.

Actually, Curry and Franchione quit, so we didn't pay them a buyout. And Price was fired for cause, so no buyout there, either. And as bad as Dubose sucked, he has a more recent SEC championship than Fulmer.

It's impressive that LSU is spending that little and doing do well.

They never have to leave the state to recruit, or at worst have to travel next door to Texas. They can all pile into one school owned Prius and drive everywhere. Easy to save money when you don't have to fly anywhere.

Looks like we are having to still pay Fulmer to NOT recruit also.

Yet, they all sucked to some degree which was my point of having to continue to replace a coach.

Curry quit because he got tired of the crazies and saw the writing on the wall. Fran quit because he knew he was a bad fit and he really didn't know the true sanctions he was dealing with. Price, well, he got to see a nice tranny.

You never know how universities hide money inside their budget. UT may fully disclose every dime we spend while LSU hides their expenses in general operations.... just a thought

I doubt it. The coaching turnover was probably the big reason UT jumped up 400k from last season.

I can understand LSU being low due to the fact that they have no competition for the in-state talent and they can basically hand pick who they want.

Yeah Louisiana has top talent - but Florida produces that same talent in a much large quantity.. So I still don't get it - they get who they want in Florida for the most part right now as long as the guy didn't grow up a Seminole or Cane and isn't one of the "I want to leave the state" kids. There's enough for all three big Florida schools to stay home and barely leave the state to get guys. I guess it's due to UF choosing to recruit more nationally rather than needing to.

Florida definitely produces more talent ,but Florida also has to compete with Florida State and Miami. IIRC, Louisiana has the highest talent per capita.
