This is for those people who may be concerned with Dobbs having a heavy academic load in aeronautical engineering and being starting QB simultaneously.

I was just listening to the Sports Animal, and they had an official from Alpharetta HS on. Basically, and I'm paraphrasing, he said that if Dobbs wants to get it done, he can get it done. Said that he took all AP classes his junior and senior years and excelled both in the classroom and on the field. Basically, he was saying the kid is pretty much a genius, that he focuses on academics and no matter how hard, he still rules the playing field.

I don't know what person would worry about that---the kid is smart and football isn't forever. He's a student first that just so happens to take academics seriously. Football is just a good ticket to a free education. Hope he does excellent on the field too.

Well, there are those that think football comes first. On another note, it sounds like the kid wants a degree, so I don't think we have to worry about him leaving his junior year.

Watch the latest interview with Mizzou's freshman QB Maty Mauk and you'll wonder how he ever got into school. The guy epitomizes dumb football player jock.

Football for Dobbs is probably as mentally taxing as brushing teeth is for most people.

Just because dobbs is pursuing a difficult degree should have no bearing on anyone's expectations of the kid. As long as he keeps his head on straight he should have no problems. There was a player several years ago that was pursuing an engineering degree at one of, if not the, most prominent and difficult engineering schools in the country, Georgia tech, while also playing football. His name is Calvin Johnson.

Focus on football the next 3 years and be top 10 draft pick, then it really wont matter MILLIONS TO BURN.:)

Despite the efforts of TV analysts everywhere . . . football isn't rocket science.

Hold it there fella....

You needs brains to KEEP THE MONEY. Don't believe me? The NFL alumni is riddled with former millionaires who have gone broke or living slightly above or at the poverty level. It is incredible, but it is true. ESPN had a story on this dilemma a few months back.

Heard on the radio Maty Mauk managed to evade the police on a scooter with 2 co-ed passengers. He may be dumb, but that takes some talent.

One thing I wonder about is that aero engineering at UT is structured as a 5 year program to begin with and with Dobbs not red shirting now, I wonder if there will be a situation where he has completed his eligibility in 4 years but still hasn't finished his degree.

It seems like he would want to finish up his degree. Maybe with summer classes everything can fit into 4 years. Obviously I'm not questioning his ability to handle all the classes, just wondering if anything like this has happened before.

Edit: some said he took AP classes in HS so perhaps he transfered in enough credits where my question will be a non issue

If he is as smart as everyone thinks he is, I'm sure he would have academic scholarships available to him, after his 4 years are done. plus Tennessee has a program available to former players to come back, and finish their degrees for free after they are done playing football.

Geez, if you got it you got it! If you have a photographic memory like Butch Jones said he thought Dobbs had, how valuable is that????

Darwin Walker, on the '98 NC team, was an engineering student. He was one of the smartest people I ever had a class with. He knew way more than the big dorks in there!

The aerospace program is only 5 years with a co-op. His AP classes could allow him to skip freshman English, Cal 1&2, physics, and maybe one elective. That is assuming a lot though. Finishing an engineering program in 3 years is almost impossible.

Unless college has really changed a ton since I've been there, he's taking the pre-requisite classes right now anyway. He'll dip into the hard stuff come Spring semester.

Some of you need a life...seriously, stop living vicariously thru UT football players.

Someone posted on here that earlier that they had a class
With Dobbs and he spent most of his lecture time studying
The playbook and was pretty sure he was making better grades...

Some people just learn things differently and only have to
See or hear it once and its ingrained
