Italian rider died yesterday in the Malaysian MotoGP.

I was up late and happened to turn it on just before it happened. The red flagged then canceled the race but did not have the status up date when they dropped coverage. I assumed it was bad since they canceled the race (only a few laps in).

Bad week in motorsports. Let's hope these don't come in 3s.

RIP.

Just watched the Simoncelli video -- it is pretty gruesome stuff.

I saw it live and was like damn! Watched one replay before I knew he was killed - it's odd how he slides out of the turn but then comes back in right in front of that other guy.

At one point right after the accident they had a shot of him laying on the track as other riders went buy - I wasn't sure I really saw it until the replay.

Will be interested to hear why/how his helmet came off.

He lowsided and instead of the bike sliding out it gripped for some reason just enough to stay upright. He was kind of pinned down trying to hang on and the bike just veered in the path of the other two bikes. If you look at the replays very close it looks like the bike was maybe 1 second away from going all the way down. Just wrong place, wrong time and horrible deal.

RIP to a very talented Moto GP guy. I don't follow this type of racing as much as others but these guys really have a ton of guts to do what they do on these bikes.
