Saban takes advantages of loopholes and signing numbers by medically redshirting players that are barely hurt. This adds to an already deep roster. That wont be happening anymore.

Is the SEC or NCAA instituting the new rule?

I'm sure they'll find a way to screw guys over that actually need a medical RS and coaches will still find loop holes.

Restricting this practice is ridiculous. If a player is not so hurt that he can't play anymore, then he will generally get an NCAA waiver to play the next year at another school because his current school made the decision, not the player. He can either do that, or he gets to continue his free education at his current school, which all the critics say is the benefit the gets deprived via oversigning.

I'm not sure when the change is official, but all medical redshirt issues are now going through the league office and out of the hands of the individual coaches/staff.

Which parts were previously in the hands of the coaches? I thought that the league handled all the MRS decisions as far as who got them.
