Saban takes advantages of loopholes and signing numbers by medically redshirting players that are barely hurt. This adds to an already deep roster. That wont be happening anymore.
Restricting this practice is ridiculous. If a player is not so hurt that he can't play anymore, then he will generally get an NCAA waiver to play the next year at another school because his current school made the decision, not the player. He can either do that, or he gets to continue his free education at his current school, which all the critics say is the benefit the gets deprived via oversigning.
I'm not sure when the change is official, but all medical redshirt issues are now going through the league office and out of the hands of the individual coaches/staff.
