Another Oregon player dismissed

Facebook post costs Oregon WR Jamere Holland spot on team - ESPN

Oregon coach Chip Kelly announced Sunday he had dismissed Jamere Holland from the team, hinting it was because of the wide receiver's expletive-filled post on the player's Facebook page.

Holland updated his Facebook status after linebacker Kristian Kiko Alonso was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants. Alonso is the fourth Oregon player to be arrested in the past month.

In his post, Holland mistakenly concluded Alonso had been kicked off the team and blasted the move as unfair and damaging to the Ducks.

Holland wrote in a later post: "I wish I could block whites as friends and only have blacks LOL, cause apparently I'm misunderstood."

---

Star running back LaMichael James, 20, was arrested last week after his girlfriend told police he choked her and threw her to the ground during an argument. James pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of fourth-degree assault, physical harassment and strangulation.

Eugene police said last week that kicker Rob Beard had been cited with investigation of misdemeanor assault in a Jan. 24 street fight that left him seriously injured. Police also cited defensive end Matt Simms for investigation of misdemeanor assault in that brawl. Simms was dismissed from the team, while another kicker allegedly involved in the incident, Mike Bowlin, left the team last week. Simms and Beard have pleaded not guilty.

Sucks they have so many kids screwing up but if it helps Tennessee win... :the_finger:

The kid sounded racist anyways. Plus, we've watched Tennessee take far more blows this past year. I can't feel too bad for Oregon. Especially with Tennessee playing them this season.

Can't wait for football. If only it were year round.

Just imagine if a white person said he wanted to block blacks as friends and only have whites? He would be hung up and skewered. That hypocrisy that exists on this subject is crazy, but far from surprising.

so kelly kicks one guy off the team for a facebook quote, another commits domestic assault and is still on the team. coincidence one is a role player and the other is a star? no of course not.

Oh no way its coincidence. Although, I'd say LaMichael will be off the team too before it's all over

Holland has been in trouble on and off since he got to Oregon. He wasn't allowed to play in the Rose Bowl. As has been explained directly by the AD, the Facebook post was not the only reason Holland was kicked off the team.

Additionally, there is a difference between allegations and convictions. Kelly knew what Holland did because he could read it himself. James has plead not guilty to the charges made against him. You have no idea whether or not James "committed" domestic assault at this point. If it turns out that he did, there is no reason to think that Kelly won't punish him for it.

blount had major issues prior as well. how come he didn't get kicked off the team for a far greater violation? all these incidents are a coincidence right? ha ha ha ha

I wouldn't call Holland a role player. He's quite talented but also very much maligned.

I would consider calling out your coach in public to be worse than sucker punching a player from an opposing team when he's in your face.

I agree with you, droski, that Kelly doesn't have control over his team right now. But I was just watching PTI, and Dan Lebatard made a pretty good point that winning football programs and police sirens have a direct correlation. I'd like to see a study of the top 20 or so programs over the last decade and how many arrests/dismissals and recruiting violations have happened to those programs.

Nobody is going to run a clean program that will consistently win championships anymore.

Why does it matter that I'm up here now? The internet has made the world a very small place.

Holland said Kelly's punishment of another player was "weak weak ****" or something along those lines. That was more the straw that broke the camel's back, though, so to speak.

Anyone else think we could see one of those Urban Meyer specials?

Meaning that he wouldn't get a harsh punishment? Unless there were some kind of mitigating circumstances we don't know about, I don't think so.

Holland had worse prior issues than Blount. He was almost kicked off the team long ago. Reportedly, Belotti confronted him about his issues and gave him an ultimatum about staying on the team. It was a building story last off-season that Holland was finally getting his act together. Then we found out during the season that he hadn't.

Also, as mentioned, it's debatable that what Blount did was "far greater" of a violation. Publicly calling out your coach is worse than retaliating against an opposing player that starts crap with you, imo.

so how important was this guy to the ducks?

He was one of the fastest players on the team and had moments. But, he was never consistent, dropped a lot of wide open gimmes, admittedly didn't know the play-book and was constantly sitting out games due to being academically ineligible.

Also, Oregon gains three WRs with a lot of potential in Tyrece Gaines, Diante Jackson and Blake Cantu. So, they should be fine without Holland.
