Here's another mathematics based poll. I heard this guy on a CBS Podcast and went and found his pre-season poll. He has UT at 17, which is higher than I have seen them anywhere else. Basketball Prospectus | Indiana's No. 1

Also, for anyone that cares, Ken Pomeroy is supposed to be on the CBS basketball podcast on Friday 11-02-12.

Think it's funny that the bubble team themselves (Virginia Tech) comes in at number 68 haha. They would be the last team in by this ranking.

I get what your saying, BUT being ranked anywhere in the 60's by one of these polls usually means you're significantly off the bubble. You have to account for the auto-qualifiers that are down in the 80's (and even worse). UT was ranked 52 on kenpom.com after the SECT loss to Ole Miss last season and they weren't on the bubble at the end.

Yea I gotcha. So much for the 68 best teams... Just thought it was interesting.

Yeah, i understood what you were saying. Va Tech is the poster child for getting dissed by the committee.

Edit: And as far as the best 68 teams thing go. I have long thought that there are way too many teams in Div 1 basketball. But that's where the money is for many of these smaller schools and since the NCAA is technically a non-profit, they have to let everyone that wants in have a piece of the pie.

BTW has there been any word on when we can expect Jerrone Maymon back? I know he most likely won't start the season. Just wondering if there is any info on when he will be back and at 100%

It's been very quiet, a lot was speculated that he needs another surgery to clean up the knee....if that's the case you'd think they'd have hurried and done it.

I wouldn't expect him back before December, and he may not even be 100% until January.

That's depressing. He's one of those guys that seems to raise the level of the entire team when he's on the floor. Hope he makes a quick and full recovery. We really need him to achieve some of the things I think are possible.

Basketball prospectus is a good publication. I bought the football prospectus this past year. Holy **** - a mind boggling amount of statistics

I agree. I think we're deserving of the 20-30 range and most seem to agree.

Like I've said, win our first 4 and well be top 15, and in every ranking, preseason stuff don't mean jack.

I think a lot of analysts and voters are in a "wait and see" mode. They want to believe in what Cuonzo and the Vols did down the stretch last year but they are left with the MTSU loss in TBA as their last memory of the season. Like you said, if the team comes out early and strings together 4 or 5 wins to start the season, people are going to pull the trigger and move the Vols up the polls pretty quick.
