Right before our eyes we are witnessing the folly of progressivism/statism/socialism. The "makers" like Germany in the EU are being expected to pony up a bail out for "takers" like Greece... but the Greeks are absolutely refusing to cut their very generous public benefits.

The Germans are rightly asking, "Why should we sacrifice when they won't?"

This is played out at both the macro and micro levels. In our nation, you have a mass protest on Wall Street parly motivated by the belief of some that the deserve "free stuff" paid for by someone who went out and earned money. We have Progressives bailing out companies or "investing" in companies that are not viable on their own with cash extracted from people who are generating wealth in the economy.

I sincerely wonder how so many smart people can turn a blind eye to that abject failure of all forms of big gov't.

it doesn't appear that we have the determination/will as a country to make the tough cuts that will need to be made to sustain us as a superpower (economically and militarily) .. if we don't elect a lot of fiscally responsible pols in '12, our country will be in serious trouble .. as if it's not already

The problem is still fixable. The problem imo is when someone like Ryan, Cain, the TP, etc come along with a solution that would actually reduce gov't's size, scope, and costs... the establishment comes out in force to destroy the idea if not the person too.

We have a political "class" in this country. Our founders feared the eventuality of such a class because they knew corruption and oppression would follow.
