UGA football player Baker arrested
9:49 am September 26, 2010, by Tim Tucker
Georgia football player Demetre Baker was arrested early Sunday in Athens on DUI and other charges, according to the Clarke County Jail booking report.
Baker, 19, a freshman linebacker, also was charged with improper driving and underage possession of alcohol.
He is the 10th UGA football player arrested this year.
Baker has not played in a game this season and, according to the Bulldogs dress-out roster for Saturday nights game at Mississippi State, did not accompany the team to Starkville, Miss. Georgia lost to Mississippi State 24-12.
Baker, from Orange Park, Fla., was arrested by Athens-Clarke County Police and booked into the jail at 4:26 a.m. Sunday. Bond was set at a total of $2,500, according to jail records.
Earlier this month, in a meeting with the full staff of Georgias athletic department, UGA President Michael Adams addressed the issue of arrests on the football team.
We have had too much in the football team, Adams said later. And so we expect the coaches and the ADs to provide role models and leadership for their players, and I told the whole Athletic Association staff that.
