The BoE in San Francisco unanimously supported the use of the comicbook "Addicted to War" for use as a supplemental textbook in SF High Schools.

http://www.sfbayguardian.com/entry.php?entry_id=2785&catid=4

It's been endorsed by such antiwar stalwarts as Susan Sarandon, Noam Chomsky, Helen Caldicott, Cindy Sheehan, and Howard Zinn, who called it "a witty and devastating portrait of US military history.

Check out some sample pages (click on Chapter links on sidebar)

The sample page from Chapter 4 implies that 9/11 was our fault - we were asking for it do to our militaristic actions of the past.

I feel sorry for the kids whose teachers adopt this (unless they also use an equally slanted piece representing another view).

Coming from SF can you expect anything else? These kids are getting it at home regardless of what they get in school so there is no hope for anyone in SF.

I wonder how monolithic the views are in SF. I know a few folks there and they don't fit the stereotype. From what I've heard, it's a tough place to have a desenting view (ironically enough).

I agree. I have family in Sacremento and we cannot talk about politics at all without them going ape on me, and I consider myself to be fairly liberal. The PC gestapo has successfully brainwashed just about everyone in the entire state IMO. These are college educated professionals who don't even perform critical analysis on their own stated beliefs. I recently asked my relative what she thought turned California from "Regan Country" into whatever it is now and her opinion was the rise of the baby boomer generation (as if most of them were not already able to vote in the 1980s???). I asked if she thought any of it might have to do with the influx of illegals who are now voting to keep themselves on the public dole in southern California and I thought she was going to have a stroke.

There are two brothers that own the company I work for. One lives in DC and the other in SF. The one in SF has his wife and son living in DC attending private schools there. He only lives in SF to be near the tech centers in SV. He's a liberal but says even the attitude there is that you have to be even further to the left to even feel comfortable. He jokes that he has to put a bust of Lenin on his desk when some of his connections there come to the office just to make them feel comfortable....joke of course.

Please noone in Tennessee or the south should go after another states education problems look at the statistics on education it does not bode well for the south in general I figure most people on this board would highly approve of local control of education I guess that only applies on how the locals think.

A person that writes the longest run-on sentence in the history of VN, should not be saying who is allowed to harp on education.

Don't know the top ten, just know the one you wrote would blow any of them away.

At least you were able to follow your previous post with another masterpiece.

Local control is a good thing. In no way does that change the fact that the SF decision is a bad one.

Local control is a good thing. Too bad NCLB took a few leaps backwards on that whole notion.

I wonder if that comic book is written in "ebonics"? Oakland isn't too far from San Fran, so maybe they're sharing city council members.
