Hearing former #5 overall recruit Antonio Alfano is in the transfer portal. Crazy how fast this stuff happens now. 2 weeks into his freshman year he’s ready to leave.

Sounds like it is mostly (exclusively?) academically-related. Pretty interesting though with Anoma already gone too. Both are from outside Alabama's traditional recruiting area (Maryland and New Jersey), but that could just be a coincidence.

When you think of prestigious colleges, University of Alabama does not come to mind. If rumors are true, Community College is in his future.

His dad said his grandma was just put on life support and she’s been very ill in the last month. He didn’t rule out a return to Bama.

"Quit going to class, quit coming here. We tried to encourage him. We tried to help him. We tried to set up counseling sessions with him to help him every way that we could. All of those things are still available to him if he wants them. But he didn’t respond to any of the things, so until he responds, you just have to assume the guy quit.”
Nick Saban: Antonio Alfano ‘basically quit’ on team

Not surprised that Tuscaloosa didn't sit well with him if that's the sort of work ethic he showed up with. Saban's got 3 guys nearly as good chomping at the bit to replace anyone who lands a starting spot.

The article I read indicated the parents were trying to get him to stay. This may be one of those deals where Saban sold the parents and the kid was not all that hot for going to Tuscaloosa.

Maybe. Not surprising a Jersey guy isn't digging Alabama in the summer. Still, short-sighted if he can't manage 3 years under Saban to get a shot in the NFL.
