Any candidates to replace Edgar yet?

I just read that Pearl was taking his time trying to find the right fit and there was no rush.

Tracey Dildy, formerly at Auburn and Ole Miss, is a respected recruiter. We could do much worse than him.

I'd heard about a guy that was an assistant for UAB(I think) and another team or two. He has good ties to Memphis and sounded alot like Edgar. He may be a possibility, I have to find specifics on him.

Didn't he just take a job with Mike Davis?

He did. I knew he was talking to UAB, I didn't know he had already signed on to the staff.

hat, how does Tom Schuberth sound? Similar background to Edgar in that he's been an assistant at UAB; was an assistant at Memphis and has extensive Memphis, Arkansas, West Tennessee ties. Supposedly was runner-up to Edgar when Pearl lined up the staff last year.

I think it is important to get someone with experience recruiting Memphis. UAB has certainly done a good job of that in recent years.

Yup, we most definitely need to find one that can recruit Memphis good, especially considering we will likely lose another assistant within a year.

Pearl said he thinks it's important to bring in an "outsider" so that their different philosophies can be challenged in a positive way.

I think that is the guy who is one of the finalists for the Texas Pan American job.

I don't think Barnes is a good fit. He has proven to be an above average teacher of the game, but a very inadequate recuiter. He won in his early years at Ole Miss with the previous coaches recuits and then was never able to put enough talent on the floor once his recruiting classes came in.

Barnes was one of the key recruiters for Rob Evans. Some guys can't adjust to recruiting as a head coach. I don't think he would be a bad option. There are guys I like better, Jay Spoonhour comes to mind, but Barnes wouldn't be a disaster.

Whoever Coach Pearl chooses I will be happy with. He hasn't made many mistakes yet, and based on what he did this past season, I'm sure he will hire the right person.

Larry Harrison, the recently fired head coach at the University of Hartford, wouldn't be a bad choice. He was a great recruiter for Bob Huggins at Cincinnati.
