I went to pet my dog today and felt a growth on his side. I thought it was a tick, but after looking at it determined it was a skin growth. I'm gonna call his vet tomorrow and get him in to see her but I'm curious if someone can give me a heads up ahead of time.

It's a pretty gross looking raised thing about a quarter inch around and tall. If I had to guess I would say it's some cancerous growth or at least looks like one.

It doesn't seem to bother him, but it has me freaked out.

Hopefully, just a skin tag.

probably a cyst...the vet should be able to take it out, relatively easily

It could be any number of things. I wouldn't worry too much. Just get the ol' boy checked out.

Just rub his belly and say "Who's a good boy? YOU ARE!!"

Or see a vet. Probably the second one.

Just took my dog to the vet for what sounds like the same thing except he had it on his face. They said it was a bengin tumor and wasn't that uncommon and typically go away on their on. Being on his face though i think i may take him back and have it removed. Where it is on his face he scratches at it and makes it bleed. Hopefully yours isnt anything serious either, the way you described it sounds exactly like what was on mine.

Took the ole boy in to the Vet today and they did an aspiration and said the cells look like a malignant tumor. They won't be sure until they remove it and have it biopsied.

The good news is they didn't think it was anything worse than a localized cancer. The bad news is I have to wait almost a month before they can get him in for surgery. Apparently good vets are booked.
