Any News on Ramar

This is way past ridiculous. I started class today, but I'm in grad school. I think the undergrads at most schools start on Wednesday. It would be considerate for the SEC (someone here said it is now their decision) to decide something now. Being considerate of the student athlete seems to be beyond Mike Slive this week. At this point, IMO, anything but letting him into the SEC would be despicable, especially if it's true that the NCAA has cleared him. Despicable because if he isn't allowed to play he could go to prep school, but classes start this week. Someone here also said that if he attends a class at UT and is then not cleared, he wouldn't be able to play at prep school this year either, so Smith is forced to wait. Why force him to get behind in his classes? I'm sure he won't exactly be taking calculus, but still. Good grief.

I really don't think it's up to Slive. I am still being told that it is still in the hands of the testing center to validate the score.

IMO conference commissioners should not be eligible for NCAA appointments. It creates the apperance of a conflict of interest. Take the present situation. If Slive keeps Ramar out then UT fans will say he's just trying to avoid the perception of pro-SEC bias (which IMO the SEC commissioner should have) vis a vis the NCAA. On the other hand, if Slive lets Ramar in then people outside the conference will accuse him of being soft on this issue. It's a catch-22 that he should not be put in. The SEC Commissioner needs to be the biggest SEC homer in the world.

Just to confirm, I figure that being admitted means he has been cleared by everybody. I guess Pearl really did know what he was doing when he took Smith as far as whether or not he would get in.

It's my understanding that the KNS story is inaccurate. It has long been reported that he was cleared by the NCAA. The ball is now in the court of the SEC and Mike Slive. And there has been no mention of action from that end, as of yet.

so what does this mean? realistically, what are his chances?
The way I understand it is the University admitted him and the clearninghouse has cleared him. They still do NOT have validation from the testing center. It is possilbe to be cleared by the clearinghouse and then fall back through. Just ask Gerald Williams.

doc, I'm not sure the SEC is involved at this point

DeWayne Peevy, SEC associate director of media relations, said Monday he hasn’t been informed about Smith or any other signees potentially under investigation by the league office.

Well, this whole thing is a &*$% mess. Everytime I hear about this on the radio or read on the net, it's a different story. I've got a headache and am just going to worry about football season.

Let's just hope this gets worked out by Sept. 1.

I think the Chattanooga FP article was a little misleading, saying that the Clearinghouse wasn't the "lone hurdle." Or, maybe the "media director" just hasn't been "informed" of the investigation.

OK, sorry. Once again. . . .back to football.
