So has anyone heard how Jason Carr is looking in camp? Nowhere have a seen him mentioned and he was supposed to be a major get in the 13' class. People were talking about him cracking the rotation before he even stepped foot on campus. Expectations too high or is it too early? I'll hang up and listen to your comments.

Expectations are always set high on VN. He might contribute some but very few players who are given the high expectations by VN live up to the hype.

I'd definitely say it's way too early. I like the approach Jones has towards incoming underclassmen. The opportunity is there (instead of nowhere, like with dooley's literal door example) but you have to work your tail off to get it.

McCullers/Couch is going to be hard to get significant playing time against at DT.

If he is DE he might get some playing time at L/SDE which I think is where Miller is playing.

:no:There is not many freshman across the country comes in and makes a big impact, a few do but not many plus you will begin to see some of the 5 stars fizzle out and a couple of no names come in and kick azz.

Really? DT is senior heavy and deep. Barring injury, or him being next Reggie I don't see it.

Not sure how much he'll contribute this year, but long-term, he should do well. Stripling said in a post-practice interview that he expects Carr to be very successful at UT.

He is 18 he still needs to get bigger and stronger. It's easier for skill position players and db's to come in and make a immediate impact because they can rely on athleticism. O line and d line have to develope more strength witch takes a little longer

I thought he was strictly looked at as a DE not DT....I wouldn't expect him to push Mo or Big Dan out of the way. Yes, VN expectations are always VERY high.

Stripling has been clear Carr is at DT, while also doing a little bit of work at DE just to learn the position as needed. Mo Couch said the same thing in an interview this week. So - Carr is a DT, best I can tell.

He's listed at 6-5 and 285. Most likely will end up at DT. Besides, that's where he stands the best chance of getting in the rotation after this year.

I think the misunderstanding comes from him being projected at DE in the 3-4 he was recruited for. He would have been too small to play DT and way too big to play OLB in that "system".

Didn't think about this. Great point.

I guess it's my fault for not watching Coach Strips media sessions....They need to keep those to under 5 min. I have ADD.

Agreed plus if we don't see him this year then that means the current group has been successful and injury free! I would prefer a redshirt out of him because next year the need is much greater!

IMO after the coaches finish running his arse off he will play around 270lbs at SDE next year!

I dont understand what you are talking about, DC. Dooley played underclassmen all over the field.

Good enough for me. Thankfully, were in position at least for one year to be able to develop FR and maybe even RS before having them play.

Had we had decent depth back in the day, Reggie White and Charles Morgan would not have seen the field early in their FR season like they did.

Rod Wilks being the only exception.

Some may take until next week to shine as they are adjusting to system and learning techniques that may be new to them. There may be more cream rising to the top as this happens. By the 17th we should know how the players are doing and who is making a great strides in improvement with possible expanded playing time.
