Anybody Have Any Connections To Publishers?

I've written a suspense novel and I am finding out very quickly that it's very hard to break into the business unless your famous, infamous, or pulitzer material. It's hard to even get a publisher to read my queries and it appears it will take a miracle for a legitimate publisher to actually agree to read my manuscript. From what I've heard, the business is very political and clannish. Any advice is appreciated.
