Thinking about getting some of these for the family for Christmas. Anybody have one? Whats your experience with it if you do?

I've got the Echo. It's about as user friendly as it gets and the kids love it.

Not yet, but I'm actually moving to a new home literally this week and I plan to take advantage of that.

The AI is good for some things, hilariously bad for others, but overall I think you'll be very happy with it. If you're an Amazon Prime member, it's a no brainer.

I'm not sure I quite see the value in the Dot, but my experience with it is limited.

The Echo Dot (2cd gen) is 49.99 and by reading does everything the Echo will just a smaller and cheaper model.

The big difference is the built in speaker. If you've got an existing sound setup that you like, Dot probably makes sense. If you want a stand alone device that you can put anywhere, Echo makes sense.

Love my Echo. I control my lights (Philips Hue) and Thermostats (Emerson Sensi) with it through IFTTT. It's extremely convenient to be able to turn down the thermostat and turn off lights in the house through voice control while I'm on my way out the door.

My buddy has one and had a funny story about receiving a package from amazon. It was a little pouch for "putting your weed in".

He doesn't partake in such activities so he was wondering how he even got it. He went and listened to his echo recordings to see if it misinterpreted something. Turned out he had gone to bed one night while his girlfriend was still up hanging out with a friend at his place. The friend was joking around saying "Alexa, get me some weed." It couldn't do that so it did the best it could and sent the pouch to put the weed in.

Got my first Echo Dot setup this week. I'm adding a second on Black Friday. They'll be discounted to $40 at most places. The Dot plus a speaker is a far superior setup to the full Echo in my opinion. The one for my room is running on a better speaker and the total was only $70 instead of $150 for a full Echo.

Plan on getting me one when I buy them for the family. Listening to music will be played through my pair of Mackie SR1530's.

Amazon is rolling out the "Echo show" the end of June. Anybody seen it yet? Also, although mine hasn't updated yet, they are rolling out an update that allows the Echo to call another.
