2023 quarterback Ryan Damron has committed to Tennessee as a preferred walk-on.

Paris, TN...Henry County

3* player. Apparently, he is pretty good. I think someone said he was sitting behind Ty Simpson and then moved schools to play more? I don't know much as far as stats and all of that. His hudl looks pretty good, decent arm.

I mean, for a PWO, not a bad pickup at all.

Got relatives up there. They say he’s extremely smart with a really good arm. Holds all their passing records. Might be a tad small for SEC play. Of course, so was Stetson Bennett. The one we missed on from that team was the left tackle who is going to Arkansas. They described him as a “monster”.

Yeah this kid is a good QB to get as a PWO. He was a starter for all four years in high school. Has a decent arm and works hard to make himself better. It may take him a year or so to get adjusted to the speed of college football but he will definitely work at it.
By the way the big tackle we missed on is probably his best friend on the football team.

How could you possibly know who is best friend is on the team? Not attacking just asking.

Has there ever been a QB that came through Tennessee, not named Milton, that people did not say something like...

Has to put on muscle
Get him a sandwich
Too small
Won't hold up to the season
Needs to put on 10-15 pounds before fall
Will have to fill out

Yes, he transferred to play against better competition than what Ty faced as well. Kid has great work ethic, would be out throwing routes on holidays. He will soak up all of the coaching he can get while here at UT.

I think this kind of pickup is the way to recruit for the future. With the portal the way it is, it’s almost impossible to stock highly touted backup QBs. Get guys like this, let him develop and have him ready to play by Year 2 or 3.

I don't know for sure is why i said probably. I heard a while back that both of them started playing football at Martin and Damron transferred to Henry Co for his freshman year because he was going to have to play behind Ty Simpson. Big Luke followed him his sophomore year.

That is quite a pedigree for a PWO. I would expect a scholarship at some point. An excellent 3rd QB for sure.

As a PWO a heck of a pick up. I’ve seen him several times. May lack in size and elite arm strength but a great leader with an excellent FB iq. Reminds me of former Huepel QB Dillion Gabriel
Gabriel was a great QB before the injury.
