I'll be here, row 1, my heated den. Row 3?!! Man I hope you have goggles, ear plugs, and lots of Goodys powders, seriously! Anyone who needs tickets for Nationwide on Sat give me a PM, I have 4. Also come on by the Casa and have a beer, just let me know first.

nothing against the race fans, but I've never been more excited to be going to Virginia Beach for the weekend, even if I'll be working my tail off the entire time (except for those 18 holes of golf on Monday). I'm really not a big fan of all those RVs clogging up the roadways around here and eating at all the restaurants. I'm just glad the tax money helps this economy here thrive.

Out of curiousity is gas $3.19 everywhere else in the state too? or just the Tri-Cities, who's going to have a population increase of around 100,000 people?

Yeah tell me about it. That pop. increase is probably closer to 150,000 with both races. Some don't go to both, and you would be surprised how many come with others and don't go to the races at all. It does seem gas goes up every race week, coincidence, I think not.

I wanted to go 150k, but was afraid that might be high. Never been able to get a good estimate on how many locals or at least within driving distance attend the races. I just know that no sensible local person is going to go out to eat Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

After living with this deal for so long, we take it in stride and try to enjoy it. We always have quests stay with us so we look forward to that. There are a few restaurants in Bristol off the main streets that actually are all but empty, cause no sensible local people go out. We almost always do. Let's see that makes us...........?

fair enough. Even the off the main streets mom and pop diners that I prefer here in JC get packed. Kind of odd that Bristol doesn't have the same problem. Even Harmony Grocery gets tons of customers and I have no clue how anyone outside of Sulphur Springs/Fall Branch even knows about that place.

I have the scanner setting out ready to be packed and my sunglasses are already in the truck. The first couple of years we sat in these seats my dad and I didn't use ear plugs or headphones. We finally decided this wasn't a good idea, so we bought a scanner. Here is a picture from our seats I made last year.

Believe it or not, I've been in Harmony Grocery, but then I traveled all over NE Tennessee for many years. One place that we go and send our guests to is Athens Steak House, food is fairly good and prices moderate with no waiting. It is hard to find or even see from the road.

you have to be absolutely nuts to not use earplugs. i've sat down there and was glad i did.

i often wonder if they play the radio broadcast during the green flag runs inside the track on the load speaker.

You are essentialy correct, there are a couple of side roads that can jump you ahead in line a mile or so, IF you can get back in line. If you come off I-81 at Exit #69 to Rt 394, you can take Exit #66 instead and pick-up 394 in Blountville. This is only worth the effort when traffic starts backing up at the #69 off ramp. Farther out 394 just past Food City you can t/rt at the light after MacDonalds and come back to 394 about a mile later. Again only worth the effort if traffic is near parking lot status. Coming from Johnson City on 11-E, you can get off at Lady & Son Farm Equip. on the old 11-E through Bluff City to right at the 11-E - Vol. Pkwy - 394 interchange. You can come out of JC on Watauga Ave. through Watauga to the old 19E which brings you to Bluff City and continue as above.
You can stay on 394 past the track to the back entrance to the Drag strip, and there are soccer fields you can park at free with shuttle buses to the track. Sorry not much help.

It's right on the border, but not near VI. It's off of East State St at the Pennsylvannia Ave/Goodson St intersection. If you know where Kay's Ice Cream was, it's a block into VA on the right up on a hill.

Those are awesome seats as far as being on top of the action and mostly getting a true feel of how fast the cars go. It's a sensation you don't get up high, along with no tire rubber all over you, deafness, and a headache for a day or two. In other words, real fans seats.!

hmmm, I think for me that's close to VI. It was the last leg of the trip and could still easily be where we stopped to eat. Could've been another place though.

I'm going for sure. It's always hard to pass up the race at the Busch Bros. Motor Speedway.

I'm from the Tri-Cities area originally. You're right, the population goes up on race weekends for the Sprint cup race, not quite as much for the truck or Nationwide Series. I'd say that at least 140,000 or more-not the total 160,000 are from out of the area. Hotels are full as far north as Roanoke and as far south as Greeneville.
Thank goodness my sister still live in Elizabethton and I have friends in Jonesborough. Of course hotel rates go up on race weekends as far any sporting event.
I'd like to see a race at BIS one of these days, but I'll just watch it from my lounge chair in the bedroom on Sunday afternoon. Gas prices are normally cheaper in the Tri-Cities than in Northern VA. Should be at least 20 cents cheaper, but who knows these days.
