It irritates me to no end the new WR trend to whine to the ref and signal for a flag EVERY time they drop a pass they should have caught.

This pass interference thing has gone way to far. If I were a ref and some player signalled for me to throw a flag, I would...on them...for unsportsmanlike conduct.

I think the NCAA needs to look into this and retrain the coaches, officials, and players on the definition of pass interference.

It is also necessary to do the same for the offensive pass interference call...I actually thought this call was a myth until the ref called it on Tennessee last year in the bama game.

What do you think?

Completely agree with you Tall Gguy. So tired of the excuses and the blaming of someone else. Did you see Brandon Marshall in the Denver game actually get up and kick the ball because he didn't see the pass interference flag thrown against the defender. If he had gotten up and gone back to the huddle, instead of being a big baby, Denver would have had a first down on that play instead of a replay of the down because of offsetting penalties.

I think the refs need to be retrained on a "celebration" penalty. These are kids and they need to have a good time. As much as I HATE GA I would have been pissed to have lost that game b/c my emotions got the best of me ( in a good way). To me it just takes the fun out of it when you cant celebrate with your teammates when you make a big play.

Best way to get fewer PI penalties, make it like the pros....15 yards isnt much. Make it at the point of the foul, and you will see fewer I think.

It has filtered all the way down to the Middle/High School levels as well and it drives me nuts also to see this from WR's even in the NFL

It all goes back to the lack of accountability being instilled in our young football players. Instead of admitting they dropped a ball or mistimed a jump, they would rather whine and complain and act like the victim. I also don't like the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, but I'm soooo tired of every time a player makes a routine tackle, they have to strut around and make some gesture like they're a badass for doing their job. If it's a big play like sack or an interception, sure, go ahead and celebrate, but don't tackle the running back on 2nd and 6 in the middle of the 3rd quarter and act like you just won the game for your team.

I agree with you glutton on the holding thing. as far as the PI calls, I dont really care for the players reactions. just deal with it and get your tail back to the huddle.

at least it's only a 15 yard penalty in college. the real bs is in the nfl when they can just chuck it downfield and pray for a penalty giving them a 50 yard gain.

Amen. There should be no 50 or 60 yard penalties under any circumstances. It's stupid.

I really don't care for the 2-point and kickoff rule with a safety either. In a lot of cases, it actually penalizes the defense for making a play...that 2 points is often worth far less than the field position you would have gotten for pinning the offense against its goal line. A safety shouldn't work in favor of the offense.

This pic of Julio Jones getting blatantly interferred with by two players at the same time in the end zone is from this season's Bama at Ole Miss game.

No flag was thrown. Maybe no official had an angle to see them grabbing Julio from behind.

Julio did not make any "throw a flag" jestures after the play. Julio can outjump DBs and make that catch. Because no flag was thrown, Bama had to settle for a FG.

I don't have a problem with a player "asking" for a flag if he was blatantly interfered with.

I think sometimes the official is "sitting on the fence" about making a call and the player can help them decide to throw a flag.

However, it shouldn't be necessary, because I think penalty calls and no-calls should be subject to the exact same play review system that's used for all other plays.

The officials have a tough job getting everything right and there is too much at stake not to use the review system for penalty calls and no-calls.

JMHO.

Don't look for penalties if you're heaving it into triple coverage...contact or no contact.
