That there was an early signing period for College Football? Why isn't there? If basketball can have one, why doesn't college football? Perhaps I'm showing my ignorance here.

Would be nice to have an early signing period around September and June or so.

There should be an early signing period in September, once these guys get to be seniors. It doesn't make any sense to do it in December, as some have suggested. Giving almost 6 months between the two days would be the most efficient way to do it.

It might be better for us, this year at least, that they don't have one so our coaches have more time to catch up.

Exactly, and that argument will always be used against it, but if a coaching change happens, it helps the school that signs more early. So, it's a lose-win situation, kind of like our EE's year.

Yeah, we'll be EXTREMELY glad about our EE situation this past year....especially if our starting quarterback comes from it.

Very double-edged sword with the coaching change aspect. On one hand, if you have an early enrollment period prior to the season then you can piece together your class in a much more efficient way for the staff and devote effort to other elements of recruiting knowing you have a player signed. But the other edge is that if that same coach has a horrible season and gets fired right at the end of the season, the existence of an early enrollment period locks all his early recruits down to LOIs.

What will happen if there are Sept signings is if there are rumors early on of coaches getting fired, recruits will sign with other schools that appear more stable. Thus a coach in trouble will have a self fulfilling prophecy.
