...because I sure am. Maybe its because its been quite awhile since we were favored against a top-10 team...on the road. Maybe its because I have the EXACT same feeling I had in 2001, when I thought we were a much better team and shouldnt lose and all my uga friends kept saying "you guys are gonna kill us" (which ive been hearing since the uga-colorado game). Maybe its because we seem to play better when we're underdogs, especially road underdogs. Maybe its because being the underdog at home is what uga needs to make them, ya know, play like uga since Richt has been there.

Maybe im making something out of nothing. I hope so. But everyone being so confident about beating a top-10 team on the road in a game we're FAVORED in even though we're ranked lower...just gives me a bad feeling. Once I saw that we were favored, I said "uh-oh". The list of recent games that we havent been favored on the road and won is a highlight reel of success ('05 lsu, '04 uga, '03 miami, '01 uf).

Am I being paranoid or does anyone else find all this stuff a bit worrisome?

I always worry when we play teams like UF, UGA, LSU, Bama and now Auburn. I guess it would be easy to pull for a team like West Virginia knowing that you're toughest game will likely be in the BCS bowl your easy schedule got you to.

I'll admit that this year I'm a little more confident about the UGA game. Partly because of how they've played so far, but mostly because how the Vols have played so far. I know they still have some concerns at certain positions but overall, they're a solid team with solid players with solid playcalling on both sides of the ball.

I think the biggest reason to be optimistic is that this is UGA's first big game. The Vols have already had a couple and are up to speed.

Georgia's defense is ranked #6 in the nation, but Colorado, UAB and Ole Miss all rank in the bottom 11 of the total offensive stats. Then you throw in SC #64 and Western Kentucky #62. Meanwhile, the Vols are ranked 17th nationally in total offense.

We all know how their offense is sputtering at the moment. The question is, is their offense sputtering more than our defense is? Will Georgia be able to pass a lot on us or will our defense be able to load up against the run?

So I think there's a lot of reasons for us as Vol fans to be optimistic. There's nothing wrong with being confident in your team. Lord knows we've had plenty of games where we have haven't been. Personally, I'm trying to enjoy the Dawg fans squirming more than us, but I'm still plenty worried about the game. It's a must win for the Vols.

to tell you the truth i am confident about the rest of the schedule.........this team is clicking more and more every gamem we have places where we need some work, but i have confidence that they will go out and give a 110% if we do that, we will be ok. It is scary playing teams like UGA,UF,LSU,BAMA.....but remember WE ARE THE TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS, these teams should also be just as worried.

I completly agree. This a must win game for us. I am worried about this game, but I have confidence in Ainge and our receivers. They will get the job done. I just hope we can get a run game going and Coker not fumble.

I just read we might not have Sears Sat. :scare:

If they players aren't over confident, it is fine. That is up to the coaches to get them ready.

I am worried about getting excited, than crashing down to earth.

I am confident, but yet concerned. I think the Vols have a great chance of winning, but all the optimism on this board makes me a bit wary. Many posters on this board also predicted a run away win over Florida, and we see where that got us. I'm not being negative, just realistic. In order to win, UT needs to play a flawless game IMO.

I have a much better feeling about this game then I did last year. We have improved in our running game with Coker and taking out the FBs was a big step and a new look for TN. As for Sears being out, I think he missied an entire week of practice last season and still came out and moved DTs back. Time will tell on that one but I don't see him doing much of anything in practice this week.

I'm not worried abou the optimism on this board, or any other fan forum, so long as is does not affect the players/staff who may stop in from time to time. We all saw what happened to an overly confident UT squad last year and no one wants to see them lose focus now. If you read Swain's statements in the Nashville City Paper today he says the Vols have to execute and not beat themselves, which goes right along with what SCSmokey said about playing a flawless game. It seems to be the new fashion to say that UGA's defense is overrated due to who they have played. If it makes you feel good to believe it then go for it but I seem to recall hearing the same thing about the Gator's defense before they beat UT. There is no way UT will get anywhere close to 100 yards on the ground without outstanding play by the backfield. I'm a little concerned about Foster coming back and playing cold against a great defense. There can be no fumbles in the red zone if UT is going to win between the hedges. I'm also very concerned about the possibility of Sears not being on the line against UGA. Also, Wilhoit HAS to kick it out of the back of the endzone on every kickoff and the punt coverage has to play better. Otherwise, UT is going to be on the wrong side of the field position battle most of the day. It may not have mattered against the Tigers but you definitely do not want to be starting inside your own five yard line against UGA.

On the other side of the ball, it looks like Joe T. will be back for UGA, at least to start the game. He knows the system and I would expect the Dawgs to look better on offense than they have the past couple of weeks.

This will be UT's toughest road game of the season and it really is a must win if there is going to be any chance of sneaking into Atlanta.

I think our optimism is warrented. We have performed in most aspects of the game way above last year. The keys to our winning at UGA are no turnovers, running game working sufficiently to keep them from keying on our passing game. And finally we must get more out of our kick off and punt returns.

I feel the same way about Foster. And about UGA's special teams...ko coverage for us has to be better, but after seeing UGA's special teams so far this season, they are making more mistakes this year than i have ever seen....two blocks against 'em playing Ole Miss? that's unheard of under Richt....Not to mention all the penalties...

on paper i can see why everyone would say we should win. but we all know the game has to played.

All i can say is i don't expect UGA to play as bad as they have this coming weekend. they've played two cupcakes that they probably have had a hard time getting up for, and that may be part of their apathetic play...that won't be an issue this week getting ready for us.

But on the flip side, i do agree with OWB...we have already had two huge games, and we kind of know what we are capable of, and more importantly, what we aren't capable of. We are the only team that UGA has played thus far that has true home run capability, and and we may very well not dominate up front, in fact i doubt we will, but i do think we have an apportunity to make a few big plays offensively that could be the difference in the game.

Defensively, i look at what UGA does on offense and i see WR dropping balls, qb's that aren't making good throws, RBs and O linemen that aren't getting any push. they have no real identity. kind of reminds me of last year...guys start catching the ball though, and all the sudden UGA can get better in a hurry. We need to be able to stop the run and put pressure on the qb and put them in bad situations. 2nd and long and get them in to a lot of 3rd downs....they don't have to be in 3rd and long all the time, but they cannot be allowed to convert on 2nd down a lot.

Lastly, i would have to think we are the more confident team coming in to this game...confidence is good. Overconfidence is bad. a thing i'm sure Cut will make sure won't happen after the tape from the Memphis game is viewed...there were enough mistakes made, even in a 41-7 game, that tells you we should be glad we were playing Memphis and not UGA last weekend.

this game still makes me nervous. Overconfidence can't sneak in to the locker room this week or any other week from here on out.

Not sure I remember the last time we blocked a punt! this would be a great game to do it.

I do feel like we have the best chance to win that we have had in a while. I'm not going out there and saying we are going to win, but we have a very good chance.

Swain: “And I don’t really feel like anyone can hold us from what we want to do.”

Dangit man, youre not making me feel better!

We still can't run the ball effectively against a good defense, and we still can't stop the run. The Georgia game will be a struggle.

IMO The vols are receiving too much hype right now. Listen folks the Vols beat a Memphis team badly which they SHOULD have beaten badly. Tennessee should pound their eyes shut every year. I was glad to see the vols lay it to someone but come guys it was Memphis.

Are the Vols improving in a lot of areas? yes but they have to show that they can have offensive success against a good sec team.
