Nice gift

It was under the "lock and key" section of the ABC store..which was huge. The guy that unlocked the cabinet raved about it.

I was actually looking for the Michter's 10 YR but no one has it.

Do you know the difference between a Tennessee whisky and a bourbon?

Bourbon must be made in America. Most is made in Kentucky. Its bill has to meet the bourbon Bottle in Bond Act. There is no law it has to be made in Kentucky.

Tennessee Whiskey is made like bourbon but must be charcoal filtered - "The Lincoln County Process" which removes most of the harsher tasting components before bottling. There is at least one old time Tennessee distillery, Prichards, grand fathered in that doesn't charcoal filter.

Charcoal filteed Tennessee whiskey m is smoother tasting and less harsh than any bourbon.

Much like triple distilled Irish Whisky is smoother than single processed Scotch.

I'll be honest I don't know much about whiskeys and bourbons. I've heard that the only "true" Tennessee Sour Mash can only come from Jack Daniels or George Dickel. Is that correct?

Interesting reading ODR's post. Thanks for sharing! :good!:

Yes, he did a nice job explaining. The charcoal filtering is what I was getting at. That's why I prefer Tennessee whisky over others.

Yup and bourbon must contain 51% corn and be no more than 160 proof and no less than 80 proof.

The Buffalo Trace Distillery is about a mile from my work and I can smell the mash on cold mornings when they make it. Most people around town can't stand the smell, but I love it!

OK. Gave it to my brother and, of course, we had to have a sip. Holy crap! This was so smooth and had 0 bite to it. I'll be buying for my own stash.
