I'm going down with a bunch of friends, the only drawback is that they're all UF alumn.
If you're going down, let me know. I'd love to stop by and chat.....and when I say chat, I mean chug a beer and sing some Rocky Top!! :clapping:

Good luck :), Im not so sure the Gator Faithful will give you (or any of the vol fans) a nice welcome. LOL. Not sure if Ill be able to make it or not. It doesnt look promising at the moment. But, the t.v. should do just fine. Damn I cant wait!

My last trip to Gainesville, after the game, we had a football thrown at us from behind, gum thrown into our car, and had to put up with some idiot on the street yelling nonsense about a free buffet for fat rednecks from Tennessee. Always humorous to watch a drunk, classless redneck call you a redneck in between slobbering episodes. Then, another low-life who apparently had drank about 24 beers (likely in an attempt to drown away the sorrows of back-to-back losses to UT at Gainesville) wouldn't leave the 4 of us alone, and kept getting in our faces, drooling something about how Florida should have won, and we were lucky, yada yada yada. It got to the point where I had been pushed to the limit and told his buddy that if he said one more word to us, I was going to take him out back and shut him up. Seeing that the two of them were grossly undersized, they left.

Other than that, we had a great experience! Recommendation: go to the huge bar on the corner (Gators? help me with the name) that usually has a live band and see if Vol fans are on the upstairs balcony. Two years ago, that was the spot to be if you were wearing Orange.

Well thanks for the heads up and recomendation. I'm a little weary about some of the things you mentioned but I'm going with mostly UF alumni, and besides that, I'm not very worried about it!! They should be used to losing by now anyways, especially to the VOLS!!

Umm, All the bars in G-ville on gameday are full on every square foot, LOL. The Purple Porpise (may not be called that anymore) was a hot spot. Tons of places in the city, good luck finding something on campus. Im sure that youll be able to find a restaurant or bar with a tv before the game. I went to one, I forget the name, for homecoming last year (against USC) and tv's were all over the place, good food too. It was well hidden, but on a corner somewhere. I could give you guys some hot spots if anyone is intrested. Id have to think about it though.

As much as I hate to admit it, Gainesville is a fun place. Great story doc, it reminds me of a couple of my trips down there except that when I went we always lost (four in a row). Since I quit going we are 2-0.

I never said it. I think a few years back SI called it that. Maybe NBC as well. It really is an awesome place, even though you guys will bash me for it.

Well, I found something on SI that had it as #4, but they also had Boulder and Bloomington in the top ten. I have lived in both places and can tell you neither of them are that big of a deal.

Gainesville the best college town in America??? Sorry, but NO. In the SEC alone, behind Knoxville, Oxford, Athens, Auburn, and maybe even Columbia. I'll find out about Baton Rouge this September, but I'm guessing it'll make the cut, as well. Gainesville is in central Florida (a.k.a. hell). It's hot, it's ugly, it's unfriendly (reference "hell" -- "we're all miserable, so you should be, too"), and it's ugly. Oops, did I say "ugly" twice? My bad.

As for the SI story, here are a couple of pics on the way down the stairs to my pub:

I'll be at the Days Inn Alachua Friday and Saturday night.

If some of you are near there, or wanted to car pool from there, we could hook up. We are going to rent something in Orlando and drive it up , so it should seat 4-5, and I'll have anywhere from 2-4 with me, so we may could caravan if not carpool.

Whole thing. I also have the KNS front page framed and matted (white and orange) from the day after our NC win. I'll get a pic of that for you too.

I'll be in South Bend, Gainesville, and obviously Lexington. But, I'm going to the UF game with a big Gator fan, and I'm going to the ND game with an Irish fan.

Yeah I'm the only Vol going down with a bunch of Gators as well, let me know if anyone wants to meet up before the game. I have never been down there and have no idea where we'll be at all. I'll get some more info before the game and post something, you guys do the same and we'll try to rendezvous....
