He was blasting Butch for his decision making. Then said he made a mistake and then defending his mistake with a bs excuse in his presser was a joke. Then went on to say he gets paid millions at one of the most desirable jobs in the nation not to be stupid, and that call was flat out stupid!!
He claimed not to be the know all of fb, he's doing radio and TV now, but you just don't make mistakes like that and then defend them.

Butch deserves to be blasted by everyone in the media. With that being said, I like the guy and hope he works out. But his 4th quarter decision making has been inexcusable.

What is troubling besides his horrendous in-game decision making and his decisions on staff hiring is that Lyle appears to be a liar.

Neuhiesel shouldn't be talking about making bad decisions IMO..

thank you for sharing as this is not something we have heard 100 times before - truly a great addition to the rest of the insightful topics started in the last 48 hours.

I just hope all of this justified criticism from both former players and coaching peers wakes Butch up to his mistakes....It's one thing for us fans to gripe--but it's quite another thing when guys who have been there and done that to make the same points...

He can't run from the reality....the big eye don't lie!

I do believe this is bitter medicine for Butch, but that he will grow through it and be a better coach! :salute:

go vols!

I am in exactly the same place. But, Butch is out of mulligans. He can't afford to lose this weekend with Georgia and Alabama looming.

Numerous media sources have been highly critical of many of Jones' decisions. He's turning UT football into a joke and making more highlight reels on the losing end.

As I recall, Neuhiesel had his own significant problems which caused issues at his alma mater as coach, University of Washington and University of Colorado-Boulder. He should not be lambasting Butch. Butch made mistakes, he should own up to them, not hang the kids out to dry. He talks about doing it the right way at Tennessee, start owning up to the mistakes made by the staff. This loss is ALL on the staff!

I agree. I can forgive the Oklahoma debacle as bad as that was. This however was atrocious. The players won this game and the coaches took it from them. This next game will tell me all I need to know about Butch Jones. Can he get this team ready to go or will they go into a shell and get embarrassed? As much as it stings it's time to move on to Arkansas.

You make mistakes at places like Central Michigan and Cincinnati NOT The University of Tennessee. His chart should have been updated long before we got to the 4th quarter of the most important game of his coaching career (so far).

Turning the program into a joke? Have you not been on a deserted island for the past 7 years?

Sounds like a good coach.

I just checked the GoVolsXtra poll and 87% feel that the UF game was lost by coaching mistakes. Butch needs to deal with this! Some of our players made mistakes also. As a fan, I will continue to support the team as long as they (including the coaches) are making progress. I wasn't expecting immediate results but I was expecting better results than the UF game.
