I know there are 871 polls about who is going to be ranked what before the season. ESPN biometrics or FPI Index 2.0 BCS industrial science polls....... yada yada

Where do you THINK they will be ranked in the two polls that are the ones that are by the teams names when they play? AND where SHOULD they rank in the polls.

I am guessing they will be around 13/15 in the polls. If they are ranked any higher than that I would be surprised. I would rather them feel like "underdogs" having to prove themselves like they did last year then be ranked #7 and be full of themselves but thats just me. (Note if Hooker was coming back they would be top #5 team nothing lower than #7)

I see Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Michigan being ranked ahead of Tennessee. I don’t think they should put anyone in the ACC ahead of us, but still the 3 SEC teams above us means projected losses most likely for Tennessee. So, I can see FSU and Clemson being ranked ahead of Tennessee. I can see them putting Texas ahead of us. Utah and USC ahead of us as well. Probably a couple of other teams ahead of us too. I think we will be the highest preseason ranked team of all who they expect to lose 3 games. I think they have as 10-3. Probably somewhere around 11th or 12th.

Rankings, like All everything teams, are exciting to watch pre-season. Get fans excited about the up coming season or in some cases depressed. BUT, these type of "guesses" are wrong as much as they are right. Always keep that in mind.

Here is last years pre-season and final coaches poll. Surely these guys know more than writers, right?

Im.agreeing with most...we start in that 10 to 13 range.
Quality wins over Florida and AandM along with a sound whipping of USCe and TSIO should be a top 5 match-up.
Most articles have us at 10 or 11 from what I have read.

I’m guessing somewhere between 10-15. If I had to make a guess for AP I’d say 12.

Seeing this poll reminded me that Bama got the #5 spot in final poll with the same record as us--- still pissed over that one....

Do you guys think we’re more talented this year than last year? I think so for defense but not offense.

There are always favorites...so I am opting for 14th.
I would prefer us to start lower and stay hungry.

52-49 Vols! That's all that mattered to me since neither Tennessee or Alabama back doored in. The streak has been broken, we have restored order on the hill, taken back Dixieland Delight, and replaced both goal posts. Best game I've ever been too. Felt like a full season was played inside of Neyland on the field and in the stands. Buck Fama Go Vols.

12th is the most common one I see. Beat Florida and we’re off to the races again. Probably start 6-0 heading into Bama.

Sept Games
Ga - Easy Schedule Scar and Aub
Mich - Joke. Neb is the biggest Sept challenge
tOSU - Indiana and ND
Bama has a rough September. Texas, OM and MsSt
Penn State - Will coast.
LSU - Tough Schedule - FSU, OM, MsSt
FSU - LSU and Clemson
USC - Will be 5-0
Wash - Boise and Mich St.
TCU - Should coast
Utah - UF, Baylor and Ore St
UT - UF and Scar

Can we run the table in Sept and how many in front of us drop a game?

We are guaranteed that either FSU or LSU has a loss

Dang, 6 of the final top 10 weren't even ranked at all to start the season.

Do you guys think we’re more talented this year than last year? I think so for defense but not offense.

I think our talent could be as good, but it’s far less proven. That’s why I struggle to assume we will be as good or better. With Hooker, Wright, Hyatt, Fant, Tillman all gone… that leaves some big shoes to fill. Hooker was a General. Wright was an anchor. Fant had more experience. Hyatt was untouchable and Tillman was a his own kind of star. His junior year that was playing at a level I have yet to seem matched other than Hyatt. Keyton and McCoy all had numerous clutch catches in big games last year. Thornton is supposed to be really good and White is no slouch. We certainly have the capability there. I think Warren has flashed enough to show he has the potential to be really good. We shall see. Not sure anyone will replace Wright. We also lost Carvin. Andrej Karic is said to be a big get and plenty to fill Carvin’s position.

Mincey apparently will be moving over to fill his shoes from Left Tackle. Apparently Campbell will provide and upgrade at left, but I would be surprised to see a 3* guy groomed to play left slide over and fill Wright’s shoes. With our centers, right guards and running backs returning, I think right tackle is our biggest question and QB is next, followed by receiver.

Good news is our coaches can coach and we have a ton of experience and talent filling all of those shoes. If Mincey can fill the shoes of Wright, everyone else takes a step forward, Milton should have plenty of time to throw for most games and have plenty of guys who can get open, catch the ball, make clutch plays and gain long yardage.

I wouldn’t sleep on this year’s offense, but I would expect it to be as good as last year either. I think if they can come close and our defense shows significant improvements, we will enjoy our season and end up no less than 10-3 after bowl season.

Part of my confidence comes in FL, Bama and Georgia all breaking in new QBs. That said we will have our hands full with KY, SC and A&M this year. A lot of people are scoffing at Kentucky, but that QB and OC are proven. Beamer seemed to have a formula for our offense last year and Rattler seemed to find himself at the end of last year. Hopefully we will rattle him in Knoxville and the drop offs in their defense will hurt them. A&M with all that talent and Patrino is a recipe we can’t ignore. I hate we have Florida and Bama on the road. I think it’s good our team goes to Virginia on the road, so they can play a decent program in a road game environment. They don’t look to be too good this year, but you never know. Still we need that road environment under Milton’s belt before going to Florida. Georgia at home is a slight advantage, but maybe a much bigger advantage with a new QB who has not played in an environment like Neyland before.

We just need to keep crooting at the same level we are. The player rating average on this class is ridiculous. I’m not sleeping on us this year. Lots of new QBs playing and new coordinators from other systems. We shall see
